An incident of this nature just shows how little control a HC is capable of having over an entire locker room. Meanwhile, if this had happened last season, and don't you even attempt to deny it, you'd be screaming from the rooftops how Rex Ryan is an A$$hole and he allowed this to happen, he should be fired, and the Jets need to replace him with a HC that demands accountability. A HC that will hold players accountable.

Well, this just proves that even though you got your wish and Rex is gone - Todd Bowles could NOT do any better.

Just so you know, I don't blame Todd Bowles for this situation occurring. That's impossible standard to keep up when you have 90 players on your roster and they are not in your employ 24/7. But Rex sure as heel would have been blamed by YOU for this.

bowles has been here a matter of months and is about a week into his first camp. like the old saying, rome wasn't built in a week.

i was a big rex fan and hated to see him fail here. but it is patently obviously to all but the most loyal, dedicated rex fans that the team needed to make a change. we've heard multiple accounts about lack of accountability under rex, not just from amaro, but from veterans like mangold and colon. rex was great when he got here...i loved him as a coach and his fresh attitude when he took over. we needed a refreshing change of pace, a guy who is willing to say F U to the league. but after time, like many a coach in the league, the players started taking things for granted and the team got complacent. again, this goes to a lack of accountability. it was time for a change.

the team needed an overhaul, in the front office, on the roster, and on the coaching staff. rome wasn't built in a day, so it's gonna take time for bowles to truly set his mark on the team. you don't turn around a franchise after 2 weeks of training camp. i'm hopeful this a teaching moment for the team and pulls them together. but only time will tell.

i'm not sure, but you seem more vested in rex than the coach of the team you proclaim to root for. i wonder why that is???

Mehta is back at it with his unnamed sources. He posted a story where an "unnamed" source said that "Geno deserved it."

the players may be unnamed, but this story isn't coming from mehta. ryan clark went on radio yesterday with the account and now the press is running with it. i see no reason why ryan clark would make this up, and if players are indeed leaking this info out, it can't reflect good on geno.

Smith “was up in [Enemkpali’s] face and pointed/touched his face,” an eyewitness said.

That followed Ryan Clark’s defense of Enemkpali on ESPN Radio earlier Wednesday morning, as he explained the situation surrounding Smith stiffing the linebacker out of $600 worth of travel expenses.

“These guys were in each other’s face,” Clark said, via the New York Post. “Geno put his finger in his face and told the guy, ‘Well, you’re not going to do anything about it.’ . . .
If that's the case I can definitely understand why IK broke Geno's jaw. Not saying he was right in doing it but I understand.

I'm just disappointed in this team. They can't keep their mouth shut and keep it in house like Bowles wanted them to.

Retired NFL safety and current ESPN commentator Ryan Clark says he knows the story of what happened Tuesday morning in the Jets' locker room.

(You can read his tweets about it at the bottom of this post, but we'll get to the juiciest details up top here.)

We know linebacker IK Enemkpali punched quarterback Geno Smith in the face, breaking Smith's jaw, and resulting in Enemkpali's release.

PLUS: Antonio Cromartie says Roger Goodell 'making his own rules up' with Tom Brady suspension

Smith is now out for six to 10 weeks.

The disagreement between Smith and Enemkpali that led to the punch was reportedly about $600 that Smith owed Enemkpali.

Wednesday morning on ESPN, Clark said he trains in the offseason with Enemkpali. (So consider the likely source of Clark's information here.)

Clark offered the following account of what happened Tuesday, which The Big Lead's Jason McIntyre transcribed:

"It became about the fact that Geno wasn't necessarily apologetic, and being in a way remorseful about the money, when saying he was going to pay IK back. You know, he didn't, and he was rather smug about it. So these guys got into it earlier in camp about this money. My report says Geno put his finger in [Enemkpali's] face and told the guy, 'Well, you're not going to do anything about it.'

"This wasn't the first time they had an issue over this same situation, and nothing came from it the first time. You know, the first time they got into an argument, you know, words were said, disrespect thrown both ways, both guys separate and walk away. So when you have that situation happen one time, I'm sure a lot of people weren't expecting it to get where it's gone."

In the immediate aftermath of the fight, coach Todd Bowles informed reporters of what happened, and used the phrase "sucker punch" to describe the hit.

Later Tuesday, after practice, Bowles spoke to reporters again, this time for longer, and made it clear that Smith was not innocent in the altercation/exchange of words that led up to the punch. But Bowles said Enemkpali swung first, and Smith didn't swing back. (He didn't have a chance to, according to Bowles.)

Veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis said he holds both players accountable for letting the situation escalate to this point. So it's clear the Jets are also holding Smith at fault, to a degree, while acknowledging the obvious: He didn't deserve to get punched in the face by Enemkpali.

Now, whether you want to call it a sucker punch or not, well, that's sort of a matter of semantics. We know Smith got punched in the face. And it's clear, based on what Bowles and Revis said, that there was a certain level of involvement/provocation on Smith's part, before the punch. Clark's comments Wednesday morning further support that.

Again, nobody within the Jets organization is saying Smith deserved what he got. Clark isn't saying this, either. But it's not like Smith was just standing at his locker quietly, and Enemkpali ran up behind him and slugged him. That much has become apparent.

Anyway, here is Clark tweeting about the punch, and laying some blame on Smith for his role in it. This is all basically in line with a lot of what came out of One Jets Drive later Tuesday. (The newer, juicier info — but, again, consider the likely source — is all the stuff up higher in this post.)

The punch was more about respect than money. Either way it's not worth it. Sucks for all involved. https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/631211088655335424

Geno, not at fault at all. He never should've been punched but he was also not an innocent that got sucker punched https://twitter.com/kborders14/status/631239501436694528

Not a "sucker punch". U act like he was looking or wasn't standing right in front of a guy w his finger in his face https://twitter.com/SBS0311/status/631238057786654721

Like I said though. Under no circumstances did Geno deserved to be punched. Their disagreement doesn't excuse violence. Sad deal

Was Ryan Clark actually right about what went down in the Jets locker room when quarterback Geno Smith had his jaw broken by his now former teammate IK Enemkpali?

Clark had said Smith "put his finger in [Enemkpali's] face" and said, "Well, you're not going to do anything about it." Now we've got an anonymous source who told The Daily News Smith "was up in (Enemkpali's) face and pointed/touched his face."

PLUS: A roundup of NJ.com's Geno Smith coverage

"Geno deserved it," someone else told The Daily News. There was also this quote from another nameless source: "That'll get a man hit every time, especially one that hasn't earned respect."

That means not everyone in the organization completely blames Enemkpali for his actions. You also know what's coming next: If all of that is true, what does it say about Smith now?

I could see Geno being smug. He didn't deserve to get punched. Maybe bitch slapped, but not punched. He put himself in the situation which no starting QB should do.

Clark got his side of the story straight from IK, with whom he is friendly. Is that correct? I thought I had read that.

There may be some smoke there, but it's also one side of the story.

I wouldn't have had an issue with Rex when it happened. I would have had an issue with Rex not doing anything about it.

Does anyone think he would have cut IK after the incident? I don't. And his waiver claim supports that idea.

the NY Post article says:

Ryan Clark, an NFL analyst for ESPN, gave a blow-by-blow Wednesday morning of how the drama between Jets quarterback Geno Smith and now-former reserve linebacker IK Enemkpali unfolded after speaking with two players who were in the locker room.

http://nypost.com/2015/08/12/smug-g...w&utm_source=NYPTwitter&utm_medium=SocialFlow

now it does appear that Clark has worked out with IK in the off-season and Clark does say he talked to IK after the incident. but if (and granted a big if) the post story is correct, there is some corroboration

Yes Clark did get his story straight from IK. They work out together. But, there is also this

"Geno deserved it," someone else told The Daily News. There was also this quote from another nameless source: "That'll get a man hit every time, especially one that hasn't earned respect."

That seems to be quotes from at least 3 other players, who were wittiness to the event. These guys seem to strongly support IK's claims. Seems like a fair amount of the team mates, in spite of Bowlels attempt to keep "the cause" in house, didn't want to see IK get thrown under the bus as a thug, and let Smith walk away as the innocent victim.

that's an excellent point.. I was leaning towards Elias' take that he wished it stayed in house like bolwes wanted but apparently some in the locker room felt like smith was asking for something & got it..

plus if these quotes are true that means there was enough time for teammates to separate them & no one did..

that's seems pretty cut & dry to me smith has little to no respect in the locker room..

LOLz like i've been saying since the SD movie foolishness last season, how can the village idiot be your starting QB??

The Daily News source is Mehta's source...that is his paper...trust that if you want...

The source also said Geno ran over IK's mom with a airplane...but that didnt seem realistic so they stuck to finger in the face part. Then they bought the homeless guy lunch and said thanks for being my source of the day.

Something's off about this team then and it's making me pessimistic because up until this point I thought we'd be having a great season.

This feeling has nothing to do with Geno. The production i was hoping to get from Geno was probably wishful thinking. He gave us depth and options. Even if he played awful, Fitz coming in midway into the season would have given us a spark.

The thing that upsets me the most is that this team claims they are close and a tight nit lockerroom but then the leadership of this team does nothing to stop this. Someone should have pulled either one of them aside and told them to drop it.

Where was Marshall, Revis, Mangold, Brick, Bowles or any of the other assistant coaches?

Metha is just spewing what Ryan Clark said and trying to add he has a source as well... And everyone knows Metha source is Manish.....LOL

But Im sure there are a lot of truths to Geno escalating the whole situation based on the fact that no one has come to his defense....
