Well I guess I'll put my two cents into the debate, and make every one mad. LOL

I honestly just don't understand why there is so much hatred directed at Rex Ryan. Yes, I've read all the posts by the "hate Rex crew". Still don't understand.

IMO Rex had more success here then any Jets coach not named Weeb. They were very exciting times. Rex was a very exciting coach. He clearly loved being the coach of the Jets. Probably from the days when his Daddy won a ring here. He badly wanted to win one to. I really enjoyed his time here.

He and Mike T. gambled heavy on on Sanchez. They gambled that Sanchez was going to take the step forward in 2011, and become a franchise QB. They mortgaged the future bringing in older players, and signing core players to big contracts in a win now gamble.

They gambled and lost. Sanchez never made that leap forward, the team got old fast, and the party was over. Rex certainly had his faults, but if Sanchez became that franchise QB, and they hit one role of luck, Rex is still here, rebuilding, and the argument wouldn't be how much he is hated, it's whether he's the greatest Jets coach of all time.

Just the way it is. The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league. Rex's team got old, and so did his act as they missed the play offs again, and again. When he got fired it was time. It's also time for Jets' fans to move on from him. He's the HC of the Bills now, and personally I'm concerned about that. Rex can get his guys to to play top shelf when he is passionate on a game.

Rex certainly wasn't the worst coach in the NFL, an he's not the best.

I'm on the same boat. I like Rex. He was the coach that has brought to me the most exciting times as a Jets fan. Those back to back AFC championship teams, the bravado and backing it up. It was fun to be a jets fan. Unfortunately, his schtick got old when the team started to suck. It was time for him to go. Whether it was his fault or someone elses. He was hear too long. The fans and players were tuning him out.

He has his flaws but he was fun to watch. Time will tell if his coaching method works.

Well it won't. He's in a situation again, that he has no QB.

Playing good defense, and running the ball well, (and they will this year) only gets a team so far. Eventually, your QB has to make some big plays under pressure from a good team.

That really makes 09 and 10 special. Even Revis said "we did it without a QB. OOps, nothing against Mark"

Having said that, yes Woody made a big mistake hiring Idzik but I wouldn't call him a bad owner. He has tried to make us better. He has failed but his passion is there. Eventually he will get it right. I think he will soon.
Woodys mistake after firing Mr T was forcing Rex on the next GM. We lost out on good possible hires because of it. If Woody just fired both and just looked for the best GM possible I think we would be years ahead of where we are now.

Ultimately, history says that's the truth.

MJ you're very passionate and emphatic with all your posts. I hope you come around when you're proven wrong for each prediction you have made. Ryan has many flaws and is repeating the same mistakes he made here in buffalo.

Listen, it's all in how you are interpreting my words. I like Woody Johnson. Yes I do. But the fact is, Rex was made to walk the plank for the misdeeds of Woody himself. And yes, I do think that constitutes a bad owner. Have some honor, some code, some integrity. Step up to that podium and admit that YOU were wrong by hiring John Idzik. Admit that John Idzik porked Rex Ryan by not getting any secondary talent, meanwhile knowing that Rex needed that to run his defense. Anyone with half a brain knows what Rex needs to run his defense.

But instead, Woody gave into the pressure of blowing it all up when he knew he was complicit in Rex's downfall. He certainly didn't do it intentionally, but he still did do it. He also never accepted any responsibility for what happened.

Elias, I don't doubt anything you are saying. I am sure that Woody's heart is in the right place. For that, I never doubted Woody. But that still doesn't protect him from criticism. I'm just telling it like it is. I'm sorry if that rubs people the wrong way. But I really don't care either.

You do not want to tell it like it is because you like Woody and you want him to be protected. Well I'm doing the same here in reference to Rex Ryan.

Oh, and if I am ever proven to be wrong about what I am saying? You can book it, that MJ will show up and accept all of the criticism necessary. And notice how much honor that shows while Woody never mentions even a smidge of guilt in Rex's plight.

I have never been a Woody fan he totally lost me when he chose a joint venture with the Giants when there were viable NY options left after Dolan screwed the West side stadium plan. Woodys mistake was not firing Rex too soon or at all it was firing him too late. This is not 2nd guessing if they are archived on Scout some where go read what I said at the time Woody is setting up Idzik and Rex to fail by forcing their unholy union. He refused to budge when other candidates moved on when they learned they had to be saddled with Rex until he finally found Idzik who would take the job no matter what. We all know how it turned out.

I was truly pissed at both those situations. He fired Rex one maybe even two years too late. Should have fired Rex when Tanny was fired. Don't even get me started on the stadium thing. All that land in Long Island, Queens, Upstate NY and maybe other parts of the other 4 boroughs and he couldn't move the team back to NY. THAT TO ME WAS JUST UNEXCEPTABLE AND TO ADD SALT TO THE WOUND, WE PAIR TOGETHER WITH THE NYG ON METLIFE STADIUM AND KEEP OUR LABEL PRETTY MUCH AS THE LITTLE BROTHER OR RED-HEADED STEP CHILDREN OF THE NY TEAMS. BUFFALO PROBABLY GETS MORE RESPECT THEN WE DO BECAUSE THEY ENTIRELY HAVE THEIR OWN THING GOING!

I respect that. I don't think Woody mentions any guilt either. in his eyes, he did all he can to keep Rex but the fans and media would have eaten him alive if he kept him past last season.

Moving the team back to Long Island would have been s bad move. The teams roots are there but the majority of the season ticket holders have shifted. It's easier for people to get to NJ than LI. Long Island makes you a small market team. While East Rutherford allows people from CT, NJ and NY to go to games.

Never thought of it like that. How about Queens of someplace else in Manhattan? They couldn't find anywhere to go there? You also have the other boroughs. Well I guessing Staten Island wouldn't have worked either

Other Boroughs could have worked but I'm no city planner so who knows the type of thought that went into it. I would have preferred queens because I live there but not sure about people from the outer Burroughs.

I started tailgating at these games and I really really enjoy it. That wouldn't be possible anywhere else in the city so for that, I am happy Woody chose NJ. I hate sharing a stadium but all we have to do is win a damn SB and we wouldn't be the step brothers anymore. We'll be kings of NY.

Bad GM's and a bad owner.

Anything to excuse Rex. Rex Ryan got six years and showed he wasn't a very good HC. He couldn't control the locker room, he spent too much time slapping guys on the ass and laughing like a clown, and not enough time keeping guys in line. He was a horrible in-game manager. His team's were grossly undisciplined.

None of that is Woody Johnson, Mike Tannenbaum, or John Idzik's fault. True, Tanny spent money like a drunken sailor, and Idzik was too conservative with the money. But Rex was to blame for most of it.

And blaming Woody Johnson makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to this Jets fan. Woody is a good owner.[/QUOTE]

Really? So I guess the fairy godmother hired John Idzik then, right? Certainly can't be Woody Johnson. After all, BlindsideD'Brick claims Woody is a good owner. This has to be one of the worst posts I have ever seen you make and IMO you've made many.

Woody Johnson relied on an advisory committee on a recommendation to hire John Idzik. And 90% of fans all around the internet said "seems like a good hire to me. He certainly seems qualified, love the Seattle connection". But go ahead and put all the blame on Woody. Yes, he's ultimately responsible for the hiring, but anyone can use hindsight to say "even I knew then that was a bad hire". Most people know those fans are full of crap.

Please don't take shots at me. You have a history around here of bashing other people relentlessly with your smug attitude. Just take a few steps back and refrain from the attacks. On the Scout forums, you'd be long gone by now. You can make your point without being a major jerk.

Thanks.

I live in San Diego now, but could not possibly agree more. The Jets needed to come back to NY and have their own identity. Hell most people still call Metlife "New Giants Stadium", and to top it off we have one of the crappiest new stadiums to boot regardless of what SAR1 says. Largest market in the country and we share a stadium. F that.

Alright guys. Let's get back on point. Blindside is correct, no need to take shots at each other. We can speak to people and disagree without being nasty. It's just football talk.

Something is wrong with the quoting system but it's only on this thread so I will close this. If anyone wants to make a Geno thread, please go ahead and open one.
