Trade Proposal: Sheldon Richardson for Zach Mettenberger

Mariota is the starter and Mettenberger is not happy, word has it he's requested a trade.

I think we should offer Richardson.

As luck would have it Tennessee plays a 3-4 like us and 34DE is arguably their weakest position, the spot where they are most in need of an upgrade.

Maybe they take a gamble on Richardson, whose immense talent is unquestionable, for a QB they no longer need?

Would you make that deal?

We have Ryan Fitzpatrick starting who is better than ZM

We have Petty as a young development QB who will be better than ZM

We need to wait for a displaced Vet to be cut in a few weeks and sign him on the cheap as an insurance clipboard holder

No need to throw away Richardson for that sort of QB

The Titans 2nd Rd pick, which should be a high pick and ZM for Richardson, yes...but the titans have him on a rookie contract and theye have a mobile QB THAT is likely to take some hits; so like cousins and the skins, I doubt they dare trade their back up and handcuff MariOta with ZM as long as possible.

are you serious here? trade a pro bowl D-lineman under contract for 2 more years for a backup QB who in 7 games had 8 TDs and 7 Ints?

add in that when geno heals, we would have 4 QBs on the roster.

richardson may be a headcase. but he's relatively cheap labor for the next 2 years and is at a low point in trade value. and he's still one of the better d-ineman in the league.

Bowles already said they will suspend him additional games if the league doesn't, but the jets havent decided on the additional games because they're not allowed to until the league makes a decision. Bowles announced that Monday.

Its only 4 games now, and hey, if its only 2 more games, high 5, right? But I would guess 4-6 more. What do you think, maybe only 2-4 or 4-6. What would you guess? Hardy had his drastically reduced, so maybe it wont be as bad as I think.

i guess i could have answered the question trade him for zach and picks. but in that scenario, i'm really looking at high draft picks as the main part of the compensation. as i think you said above, possibly a high 2nd, if not a 1st. but i see that as trading richardson for picks, with zach thrown in, rather than trading him for zach, with picks thrown in.

Me too. That's why I included the 2nd rd pick...I figure it's a top 10 pick in rd 2 and they throw in ZM instead of a 5th to go with it...I agree with you 100% there, and that's the only way I do the move.

I would agree if Richardson wasn't facing at least a four game suspension this year, perhaps six, eight or more, and if he wasn't one more failed drug test away from an additional ten game suspension, and two more failed tests away from being Josh Gordon, Justin Blackmon and Aldon Smith ... and getting arrested 12 days after his first suspension is not a good sign.

People want to act like Richardson is clean as a whistle, like there is no danger following this current suspension.

There isn't a GM in the NFL that would make this trade.. Richardson is a proven Star... Mettenberger is not even considered to have franchise QB upside, maybe slightly above avg upside... Character issues are nto a reason to trade away a talent like Richardson.. you live and die with that kind of talent.... Trading him now for Mettenberger is just so in hingsight you can say you knew he would fizzle out with the law again.... Negative thoughts. How about getting the kid the right help, counseling, rehab etc... to make sure it doen't happen again... and grow him as a player and a person.
