Traps, Counters, Draws and Other Thoughts

From Bowles post game comments it seemed he wanted to focus on the run game, look at the OL, RBs and how WRs block in game situations. WR blocking might be a deciding factor in the last couple WR spots.

Some thoughts:

Seems our running offense will be very different than previous offenses under Ryan. Looks like we are using formation to keep the box from being stacked such as trips to one side, empty looks some limited motion and then running draws, counters and traps primarily with man blocking. Does not look like we will ask the guards to pull too much maybe because our guards are not our strength. Good thing that can be developed from this is play action from the same exact looks should be very effective so we might have good success in disguising run/pass. But very very different in philosophy and execution.

I do not think we say much of the core passing game yesterday because of Bowles wanting to look at the various elements of the running game, plus in the back of his mind maybe he was scared of getting Petty hurt.

As bad as we were on offense I think there is some possibility it turns our well. Remember, other than Ivory we saw almost nothing of the first team offense and Smith and Owusu are still out.

Powell definitely put himself in the conversation for making the team.

Amaro seems completely buried on the depth chart. Not sure of his injury but it seems he is such little favor I am not even sure he is guaranteed a roster spot.

Bohannon looks like he may be just good enough to carve a spot out in the HB role. Howsare did not look lost on offense.

Mauldin once he calms down could be a monster.

There is more "space" in the Bowles offense so tacking will be important by the LBs and safeties.

We are slow, Mac needs to address that in the next couple of drafts.

It has been pointed out that Amaro is listed as the #3 tight end because he will be lining up as the H-back in Gailey's offensive scheme. I don't think he is going anywhere. He had a pretty fair year for the lousy offense he was put into.
