I was thinking the same thing. That would be predicated on Fitz absolutely being horrid, but Petty is the only one who we can truly 100% assume will be on the roster Week 17.

Actually his stats aren't horrible. 17 TD's 11Picks, 85 rtg. At one time he was a hot item.

Fitz is playing 2 quarters this week and 2 quarters and 1 drive the following week. if he went down in those 4+ quarters, Jets would be hurting. I agree, Flynn is here just in case that happens.

Flynn, while not possessed of a big arm, is incredibly aware of his surroundings in the pocket and quite accurate in the dink&dunk semi-WCO played by both GB & SEA.
HYATT™ suspects there will be a lot of those WCO elements present in Bowles' playbook for The Amish Rifle - they certainly would have helped GeNOT.
The REASONS Matt Flynn didn't beat out Russell Wilson in SEA and anyone else in OAK or BUF, is because he was suffering a long-lingering tendinitis in his throwing elbow during his UFA period.
When he came back to GB in 2013, he was very productive, pulling out a game against MIN to a tie, losing to DET, making a 2nd half comeback from (26-3) to win against DAL and then losing a squeaker to PIT (38-31).
He may not have the big arm, but he CAN play, and play well in this league.
New England cut him this year because he had a hammy issue and couldn't pass their physical after being signed.
You can ask questions about Flynn's physical readiness & his arm strength, but HYATT™ would caution against questioning his brain and ability to be a win-sustaining NFL QB.
He's a ballsy QB who will make plays and can move around quite well if there is pressure on the pocket.
With a defense as good as the one in New Jersey, Flynn can get you to, and win in, the playoffs - IF he can stay healthy.
At least we have two capable veteran QB's available. Its a much better situation than we have been in over the last 6+ years.

There's probably a good chance that he wins the starting job altogether, Fitz has been terrible and Geno is a punk.
