LOL I am indifferent about him. I hear people say if we had pennington we'd be much better blah blah. Pennington was an average QB. (Going off what I remember watching)He wasn't much better than what Fitz is today. Pennington's padded his accuracy stats with all these short throws. He had no arm. I remember when he threw that bomb to Moss against Chargers, all of us were stunned he can throw 40 yards.
Fitz hasn't thrown deep yet but I think he can. I will look for an SI article that I read recently that breaks down his play.

Me as Elias - Is it after injury Pennington that they hate? Maybe but he had a weak arm way before that. Oakland figured him out in that divisional round playoff game. They forced him to make tough throws and he couldn't do it. Up until that point, the Jets were hot.
Second time I'm posting this:
My assessment of watching Fitz over the past two games is he is your basic, play it safe to the MAX and check down king of QBs. Ofcourse this isn't news to anyone and we all know this but to see in action for two straight games is something else. I've never really watched or paid any attention to Fitz until now. Back to my point, Caption check-down can be an asset because he won't or you wouldn't expect him to turn the ball over as much as Geno, Sanchez or even a Petty. With that said, we can win 10-11 games with him if he play this way and limits the turnovers.
However; this puts much pressure on the D, o-line and running game in which this would of most likely been the case with Geno but for a different reason and that is the TOs. With Fitz, there will be a lot of three and outs and as we saw over the first two pre-season games. When he and the O can get it going they will score nicely but don't expect much of it. So the D, o-line and running game has to keep the games close for us to win. If they can do that, Fitz plays his basic, check-down and safe game and limits the TOs then we have a chance to win.
Problem is, what happens when we go up against high scoring teams the D can't do but so much? Or high powered defenses that can shut down our basic offense and not allow us to score what appears to be a 17 point offense max? Guess only time will tell but I'm trying my best to be optimistic here Jets faithful. It appears any pass over 25 yards and we might as well forget it. Looks to me like the pass will either fall short or get intercepted. I'm not sure if Fitz will even throw a pass over 25 yards to be honest, even if the play is designed to do so.
I truly am liking what I'm seeing from Petty and I think if he can show something the third game, they should consider giving him the nod as starter. Petty passes looked sharp and he has a much better then an average NFL arm. Question is, has he grasped the NFL other aspects of the game, majority and leadership qualities and he probably has not. Give him a year on the bench to learn and I think we will have something special. I want to see him playing from game one now but that will probably hurt more then help. J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets

Well if you think Fitzpatrick check downs a lot, than you're going to like his carbon copy brother from a different mother- Matt Flynn. Very similar type of Qb's that frustrate a fan base real fast.
I know people are complaining about Fitz checking down, but we have seen what TO's have done to this team over the last 6+years. Its boring football to watch for sure, but you I think can work if TO's are limited.
Yea - I don't think anyone will be calling for Flynn.
It also sucks that now, more than ever, this league is very dependent on the qb.
I agree, but we might have one in Petty who still needs time to develop. I think Fitz will be fine for now. There were a couple very nice throws. I also think Gailey is just working on chemistry without going into much of the playbook. I hope Fitz can at least keep the D honest every once in awhile. If Geno comes back which I don't want, then he brings more arm talent but far more mistakes based on his first two years.

If petty has another nice outing in this pre-season, and Fitz goes south, the fans will be calling for Petty.
I hope Bowels turns a deaf ear to it for this season
Me too. He is not ready and I don't want him to learn some bad habits just because he was rushed.

In the past Fitz has been able to do this when he has the WR's to do it. IMO if the D's start packing the box daring him to throw up field, Decker, Marshall, or Smith (when he's healthy) should be able to make them pay for it. That will come off play actions. (I hope)
I hope so too. I think he has some really reliable WR's that are very good blockers for run game and then play action could yield some bigger plays.

he can make the bomb throws with ease and pretty accurate. The ones he has no arm strength for are the 10-15 yard outs or curls those are real issues for him and you will see alot of low throws on those routes this year.
Might even see a few picked off because he can't rope it to those routes so real good db's will jump it with ease.
But don't tell me he can't throw it long because I bet stevie johnson and deandre hopkins will tell you your wrong.
