Jets VS giants Gamethread

It would be nice if the Jets beat the giants on Saturday night.

And hopefully the first team will look good doing it.

(I know it will have no real meaning, but it will still make me feel good. Is that allowed?)

I just wanna see progress from all three phases of the team, yes, including special teams after that blown punt coverage on Hester last week. I'd like to see Fitz chuck it downfield a few times and hopefully connect, and the defense needs a better performance overall. Penalties need to be cut in half. And an injury-free game would be welcome after weeks of injuries piling up.

I don't care about the final score.

Last time we beat them, Geno threw 3 picks and ran out of end zone for a safety. Our presumptive starting QB, playing behind a 3rd string O Line took a hit that knocked him out of the season and ended his Jet career. Our head coach got sideways with the press in his post game presser. Literally.

Classic. I will take a non drama filled loss (as long as our 1s look good) over a meaningless drama filled win in the preseason.

I expect us to dominate due to the Giants lack of play by the o line and injuries on defense. I expect our d to get a lot of good pressure, and potentially some nice drives on offense. But I'll take it with a grain of salt knowing the troubles the Giants are going through.
Also, some mentioned Beckham had t Rex arms last week.

Of course it doesn't matter who wins the Snoopy Bowl. But if what i want to see happen, happens, the Jets will probably win.

I figure the 1's will play into the 3rd. Then Petty gets the rest of the way. i want to see the 1's play like they met one another before. Some consistency on offense, and a few 3 and out's on defense.

I want Petty to continue to look like he belongs out there again. Kids had a real nice week. Want to see him keep it up

I loved Rex for two years, but he really is a buffoon sometimes. He can coach defense.

Looking for Petty to play quite a bit. I know this here is the game the starters might play three quarters of the game. If that doesn't happen with Fitz and they get Petty in there alot sooner, I think it's a sign of them having true confidence in Petty and seeing if he can be the two #2 QB.

Let's just win. I feel like we have been the catalyst for Giants SuperBowl runs the last two times. Win now and in the regular season. Giants are really struggling protecting the qb though.

I am just worried about the regular season -- that 99 yard TD pass to Victor Cruz turned around both teams seasons. They went on their SB run and we collapsed down the stretch. To me, that was the turning point of the whole Rex regime.

Maybe its because I don't live in the NY area anymore (don't have to deal with Giant fans), but I really do not care about the win this weekend. I want the team to be healthy, see the 1s play well and hopefully see Fitz sling the ball around with a bit more zip than he had on it last week.

I don't care about the final score.

I do.
I despise that team, its players, fans and ownership. It goes back to the days when the Jets were the Titans of New York (I still have a jacket). When that team played, their local broadcasts and stations would not even give the scores of our team's games.
Since then, I have never mentioned or typed their team's name. To me, they are the "other team in New York". (Usually with a hyphenated adjective or two, but obscenity is not permitted here)

Yeah, the final score matters to me.
If the Jets lose, I will be in a funk that can only be relieved by beating the snot out of them the next time they play the Jets.

My dislike goes back to the early to mid 50s

Born in Brooklyn, an avid Dodger fan, I decided to pick.a team in the NFL.

Looked over the list....NY Giants...I immediately invisioned Sal Maglie, Leo Durocher and Bobby Thomson....NO FRIGGING WAY!

Rooted for Otto Graham, Ray Renfro, Dante Lavelli, Jim Brown and Lou the Toe until 1960 before the Fightin Titans arrived and went to two Thanksgiving morning games against the Dallas Texans and Oakland Raiders in 60 and 61

I suspect they are going to save that for the Eagles game. Play both Flynn, and Petty a half each. If Petty can continue to play well, Flynn will be looking for work again and save a roster spot.

Fitz really needs some work with the 1's. Smith has been there since the OTA's

I don't know, I kinda think the starters will come back out for a series or two in the third depending on how good they look. I see Flynn getting the cleanup reps.
The reason being that they need to see what they have with him in a game. Also whoever they project as a backup needs to be prepared should his number get called. Maybe petty gets a couple series and Flynn gets a whole quarter.

If I had to put money on it, I'd put it on Colon starting the season as our RG

I'd be stunned if Colon wasn't the RG. He's been almost playing exclusively with the 1's for a week.

Too bad according to a NY times article at the time the Dodgers were the 1st choice for team name before the Titans but it did not work out.

Originally nicknamed the Titans, the team was renamed the Jets in 1963 after Sonny Werblin led an investment group that purchased the bankrupt franchise for $1 million.
According to a contemporary New York Times story, the franchise considered calling itself the Dodgers, but nixed the idea after Major League Baseball didn’t like it. Gothams also got some consideration, but the team didn’t like the idea of having it shortened to the Goths, because “you know they weren’t such nice people.” The last finalist to fall was the New York Borros, a pun on the city’s boroughs; the team worried that opposing fans would make the Borros-burros connection and derisively call the squad the jackasses.
Eventually the team became the Jets since it was going to play in Shea Stadium, which is close to LaGuardia Airport. According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the name was supposed to reflect the “modern approach of his team.”

Nice post Nick. That's interesting stuff.

And I'm glad we chose the name "Jets". Always liked our team name.
