Geno Smith: A coaching change could be good for us all

Change is coming to Gotham.

With Jets owner Woody Johnson calling together an advisory football council to serve as a sounding board for potential sweeping changes in Florham Park, at least one player believes change might help this 3-12 team.

Starting quarterback Geno Smith acknowledged Monday, per ESPN New York's Rich Cimini, that moving on from coach Rex Ryan would be "a tough thing to do, but we are professionals and we have to do it. A change could be good for us all."

The larger question in New York is whether Johnson will retain the services of embattled general manager John Idzik, who hasn't exactly endeared himself to Jets fans over two tumultuous seasons.

Smith should be careful what he wishes for.

The marriage between Geno and Rex has always been rocky, but a new coaching staff might decide to wipe away this team's stale crop of underwhelming quarterbacks long before next September dawns.

Yeah Smith is lucky MS has shown some glimpses of skill to show the next coach that he can be coached up...otherwise he better get use to clipboard duty

He has not achieved a level of success for him to say this IMO.

Awful thing to say but he's probably unhappy with Rex since Rex didn't want to switch away from Vick. Sucks that he's speaking out like this because that's a nasty attitude. I'm sure this quote is more him being ignorant than him speaking maliciously but like previously said here, he's to clueless and no one this clueless should be on the team.

Geno Smith: A coaching change could be good for us all

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/23/geno-smith-a-coaching-change-could-be-good-for-us-all/

From PFT by Josh Alpe

When Jets quarterback Geno Smith was at West Virginia, the school changed head coaches after his second season.

It looks like Smith’s second professional season will lead to the same result with all signs pointing toward coach Rex Ryan’s run coming to an end shortly after the Jets close out the year against the Dolphins. There have been plenty of Jets players saying that they don’t want to see Ryan fired, but Smith pointed out that change can be a good thing when asked about his experience dealing with it in college.

“It is all about what you make it,” Smith said, via NJ.com. “I think the toughest part about it is not being able to continue to play for the same coach, the same guy that you learned to love, you invest so much in, and you believe [in] them. To reset and readjust is a tough thing to do, but we are professionals and we have to do it. A change could be good for us all. So if it happens, when it happens, then we will see.”

Smith may be proven correct about change being good, especially if the next coach can find a higher level of quarterback play than Ryan received from Smith over the last two seasons. If the quarterback providing it isn’t Smith, the “us all” part might not be such a good fit.

This

If I was this kid I would be trying to stay out of the press, Smith is at least half the problem

He's been talking to much lately. First saying how he has shown flashes of being a pro bowler and now this.

Can't imagine what he is thinking here. Of course he has the right to say what he wants.

If nothing else Rex is very popular with the defensive players. This is going to do nothing but cause friction in the locker room

From my understanding his answer was to a question about WVU and he misspoke and said as a professional.

As always the media is swisting things.

Geno is right a coaching change can be good. Frankly a coaching change can't be any worse. 3-13 is really hard to do since 80% of the NFL is mediocre at best. You have to be really bad to be this bad. Hopefully Casserly will be the one making decisions.

I really don't even want him on the team next year but I have a feeling he could stay on as number 2

Reading that quote...it wasn't bad at all what he said....but he could've avoided the trap altogether but based on his on field play it easy to see that he is prone to getting tricked
