Rontez Miles is what Calvin Pryor was supposed to be

A heat seeking missile who tries to destroy everything he hits, and mostly succeeds. If it wasn't for draft pedigree, a first round pick verses an undrafted free agent, I have no doubt Miles would be starting ahead of Pryor.

That said, Pryor better start playing up to his draft status, or it won't be long before this kid is taking his job.

You might be right, he has been all over the field this preseason playing with a vengeance. Eskridge also has a chance to be a player in this league, hopefully we can stash him on PS.

I thought that Pryor had a terrible year last year. I know that he was playing deeper than was the original plan, but that doesn't excuse the number of missed tackles. He constantly took terrible angles in coverage as well. Hopefully, the new coaching staff will help him.

Rontez may hit hard, but he has only a very miniscule portion of the athleticism that Pryor has. Oh, and by the way, Pryor hits just as hard if not harder.

Lets also see if Rontez Miles can be forced out of his natural position and even be competent. Because that's what Pryor was forced into just last season.

Now, I don't condone Pryor crying about it and being late for meetings, but very clearly the comparison between Miles and Pryor is a stretch at best.

If we had drafted HaHa Clinton-Dix from Alabama, we would not be reading this post. I know hindsight is 20-20, but Pryor was a reach.

I expect Pryor to have a bounce back season and live up to his potential. He was just too good in college for him to play like a person that came off the street. I want to see no missed tackles from him.

As for Miles, I've always heard good things about him. Just glad that he isn't injured and can finally sho us what he has.

I'm not surprised, all preseason he was hitting everything that moved, with bad intentions!

I swear if you didn't know any better, you would think Miles (not Pryor) was the first round pick.

I've said this before but it bears repeating. This is not a total shock. Miles was one of the most heralded small school sleepers the year he came out and he reportedly ran in the 4.4's in his private workouts, maybe his pro day too, I can't recall the exact details. But this guy was a beast at the lower levels, its not like he hasn't done this before.

Pryor and Miles. Why complain. We have 2 good players who can bring it. Iron man #1 and Iron man #2 .

In typical NFL and Jets fashion we will likely keep Pryor and cut Rontez simply because of original draft position.

I've made my feelings about Miles known. But let's get serious here: Miles has played against 2's and 3's. Pryor got thrown into a starting position (out of position) as a rookie.

You cannot compare the two situations. I still think Pryor will be a starter and Miles will be a depth player. And that's OK. Depth is important.

Depth is key. If you keep rotating players in throughout the game, the more effective they'll be at the end. (Obvious point, I know)

SS is the hardest defensive position to master, let alone play well as a rookie. (3-4 years for full comprehension to set in.)
Aside from Pryor being misused last season, there's absolutely nothing wrong with his backup playing special teams and pushing Calvin Pryor from behind all the time to get better.
The Jets should be whispering hail Marys and blessed fathers that they have TWO SS prospects instead of NONE - particularly with Allen now out of the mix.

Those of you wishing they had taken Ha Ha Dix, let it be known he appears to have regressed a bit in Year 2 & wasn't THAT much better than Pryor last year anyway.
He had the luxury of a MUCH better secondary around him is all. This year the Jets can compete with anyone for top CB group - except maybe the Packers.
(Hehehehehee - man, is GB LOADED at CB this year, getting THREE new hot-shot rookies that can all play - Rollins, Randall, & Gunter.)

Actually if we had taken Brandin Cooks we wouldn't be reading this thread.

Given the QB history of late, we'd instead be discussing what a BUST Cooks was, for a 1st round WR pick.
Even with Brees he only put up 550 yards and 3 TDs.
Imagine how many of those 550 yards he WOULDN'T have hauled in, in NJ, with GeNOT at QB.

Too bad Antonio Allen got hurt this season, otherwise, we'd have lots of depth.
