Today was all about coaching...

My take on today was that it was a tail of two halves. Since about the 3 minute mark of the 1st half, this game was all Jets.

However, the Jets just did not play well at all in the 1st half. They looked uninspired on defense. They didn't tackle well. Todd Bowles did not make good decisions IMO. Ryan Fitzpatrick looked like garbage.

Then, suddenly, Todd Bowles got his feet under him. Chan Gailey must have spoken to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Suddenly, Fitz looked like a great game manager. He took what the defense was giving him. The Jets D gave him plenty of short fields.

This is really about how the coaching kept after the players and ultimately changed the outcome of the game. Half way through the 2nd quarter I thought the Jets were headed for a shellacking.

5 turnovers is truly something to be proud of for this defense. Rex Ryan defenses almost never did that. This is something for the Jets to build on.

And don't look now, but Rex Ryan and the Bills really had a masterful game against Indy. The Colts never had a chance in that game. If I am Todd Bowles, I am certainly looking at the Bills game plan against them.

I believe, (Just a feeling really. Nothing to back it up) the Jets will turn out to be better than the Bills on defense. I believe the Jets have better personnel in the secondary, of course losing Cro really hurts. But all told, I believe the Jets will have a better statistically ranked defense. They can take a few things away from what the Bills did to the Colts and win in Indy this weekend. They are capable of it.

This game was about a lot more than just coaching.

I'm not resorting to extremes as the typical Jets fan response. We played well overall as a team and beat them decisively.

I think the Jets were vanilla at first and played very safe. Once they settled in the play calling changed to a more aggressive style.

I think that's simply it. They played it safe to start.

When Fitz threw that pick, he was not taking very vanilla options. He threw the ball into double or triple coverage. He was definitely trying to do too much. Once the coaches started to make their adjustments, then the players certainly started to play within themselves. Fitz was taking very modest gains that amounted to TD drives.

I believe this was all or mostly coaching as well. It seemed the Jets had to get a feeling of what the Browns were doing in the first 23-24 minutes and adjust from there. It seemed they started to adjust or got that spark after the Williams int. It seemed then the coaches started getting a lot more aggressive and they definitely weren't going to settle for going in the half with a tied score or the losing score. It seemed they were determined to punch it in before the half and in the second half, it was all green light and go!!!

YES, YOU TOTALLY ARE...

We just got done playing the freakin' BROWNS that just lost their starting QB. A team that hasn't won its opening game for the NFL season in TEN years. Getting turnovers from Johnny Manziel, a guy that just came back from Alcoholics rehabilitation no less, was like taking candy from a baby.

PLEASE do yourself a favor and get over it.

Wait, MJ, what are you upset about?

I know they have the talent to beat the Colts, but lets not fool ourselves. The turnovers came easy today but they won't this Sunday. I think the Jets can beat the Colts, but they will need to play MUCH better than they played today.

They'd better learn how to start faster that's for sure. In particular, the defense IMO must get after the QB early and often. The Colts OL hasn't been very good and that plays right into what the Jets do the best. We'll know very quickly if the Jets can win this game. Just look and see how much control the DL is exerting over the game.

Well I think they already started to crank it up by then. Taking some longer shots down field.

Ok I agree here.

Wait, MJ, what are you upset about?

I'm not upset about a thing. Couldn't be happier actually. I just know that beating the Browns and beating the Colts are two totally different things. The Browns looked so bad today, they could be vying for the number 1 pick. Or at least a top 10 pick.

There's no way stopping the Colts will come that easy. If the Jets start the way they did against the Colts we'll be out of the game by the 3 minute mark of the 1st half.

I'm just putting things in perspective.

Okay. I agree. If the second half jets show up, we should beat the soft colts. If first half jets show up, we are screwed.

Yeah. Good way of putting it. They just did not look good at all for about the first 27 minutes of the game. The defense was very winded. The offense had about 8 minutes time of possession. That just will not cut it.

If they want to beat the Colts they absolutely must start faster. A nice long 8 minute plus drive to start the game would really set the tone nicely.

How am I resorting to extremes? This is ironic coming from a poster who regularly uses hyperbole and ALL CAPS shouting text to make his point.

This win was a combination of good coaching, good play on both sides of the ball, and limiting mistakes. It didn't all boil down to one thing. The Jets outplayed them in almost every facet of the game.

I don't know if it was all about the coaching for us, but it was definitely all about the coaching for the Giants.

i came away very satisfied gailey & fitzpatrick ran a absolute textbook 2 minute offense to take the lead going into halftime & coach bolwes putting together enough adjustments to pitch a shutout in the second half!!

only four penalties worked for me as well..

The two most encouraging aspects of this game from the Bowles perspective was the five turnovers turning into 21 Points and the halftime adjustments on defense, resulting in the second half shutout.

He came into the season preaching that he wants a defense that takes the ball away, and oh brother did he get it!!

Halftime adjustments is always attributed to the head coach, particularly defensive adjustments from a defensive coach.

You're right about the penalties too, its good to see he got that under control after that 17 penalty PS debacle.

We can't count on QB fumbles every week. But no complaining
You can if Reilly explodes off the edge and drops the hammer on the ball in classic strip-sack fashion, a move Lawrence Taylor popularized in the 80's and edge rushers started to emulate shortly thereafter. So that fumble was not luck, that was by design, that was a textbook strip-sack where the intention was to knock out the football.

True. I was referring to the fumbles off QB scrambles. Most guys know to slide
