Why does nobody like the Jets?

Well, apart from us diehards... [emoji2]

It may be a misconception on my part, but reading between the lines, no-one impartial seems to like the Jets and comments such as 'Jet like' when IK punched Geno made me realise that there wasn't the love for the franchise.

We all know franchises who appear can do no wrong, so why do people dislike the Jets so much?

For the record... I love them! [emoji7]

The Jets play in NY, big market team. Make fun of them and everyone gets a laugh. Jets are ridiculed more for not winning a SB in over 40 years than all the teams to never win won combined. Most national media just follows what comes from the NY tabloids. There are far worse franchises, on and off the field then our Jets.

It's really media fed. We have no journalistic integrity, so really what happens is lazy writers need to sell stories and to do that they need characters to fill the roles.

Writers like to bash the Jets even when we have great teams. This is all the public sees and people don't actually fact check or pay attention, so you get this phenomenon where people take journalists opinions and take them on as their own.

Two words. Rex Ryan. When we had a HC like Parcells we were respected. But a loud mouth Rex Ryan would make any team not like you. Once Bowles and Mac get their hands fully in this team , you will see a change of demeanor around the league.

I welcome the day other fans "hate" us because they are envious of our success.

But for now, I think we fans make a bigger deal about it than it actually is. I'd venture to say most out there think of us as a non-entity as opposed to a hated laughing-stock.

Here's to hoping Macc/Bowles do something about that . . .

Rex Ryan annoyed many a fan. Not only that but you only get a few instances each year hit the radar of a fan of another team...and in recent memory the Jets have been clowns at it. Geno's code red, the buttfumble - remember that set an alltime record at ESPN for play of the day or whatever they call that award done daily. Jets have been buffoons - something Rex Ryan and his foot fetish did nothing to dispel. Then of course last season we banners flying to promote the firing of Idzik. It's been lots of ammo to ridicule the Jets.

it's up to Todd Bowles to change things - kicking ass is usually a good start.

It's Giants country and they are the NFL darlings of old
And that goes for the Steelers
We ,the Jets , have done nothing consistently to flip it around

New media feeds off that and now are all up the Pats ass as well
Oh well, been living with that for 44 years now
Go Jets

The Jets have been despised since long before Ryan came to town. The hate subsided while Parcells was the HC. then resumed after he left. Personally, I like the fact the Jets are hated. What bugs me is when they are a laughingstock. And that happens way too much.

Rex bought it to another level. SB predictions, Feet gate, not kissing Bellie's rings , mouthing with the Giants it goes on and on.

Thanks for the replies.

I can live with the 'hated' part, theres not too much that we can do about that.

The 'laughing stock' tag is something that we need to work on and can definitely erase that tag ourselves...

Yes the media market makes the difference and the fact the Jets play in NY-NJ but I believe its because we are still the little brother to the Giants in NY-NJ. To add salt to the wound, we play in the same stadium as the Giants and have since the 80's, I believe. We never should left Shea and moved to the Meadowlands. Its like what the Clippers go through with the Lakers. Until we win a SB, it will stay the same to a certain extent.

Other things have happened to make it worse like hiring that loud mouth asshole in Rex Ryan who brought even more attention to a already considered little brother team in the biggest media market in the country. Then he continued the spotlight and pressure on the team and himself but couldn't deliver it. Parcells may have started the spotlight HATRED because he brought two SBs to the Giants but couldn't do it for us but Parcells was respected and so was the Jets when he was he. We were no longer considered a laughing stock as we were in the Kotite days with Parcells.

After Parcells left, we just couldn't seem to find a HC to follow in his foot-steps of keeping us respected even though we may have been hated or even considered the little brothers to the Giants. Herm Edwards came close but not close enough and I think Herm left way to soon. Rex Ryan I believe is what brought back the laughing stock modo. Yes the two straight AFC-championships were great but that was taken away from us immediately as far as whatever little respect we got because of the Rex bravado and garbage that came out his mouth ALL THE DAMN TIME.

So the laughing stock modo was with us before the Parcells erra but he got rid of that. We were respected with him but hated and I had no problems with that. After he left and Belibitch quit on us after one day, the respect slowly started to slip away and Rex brought back the laughing stock modo IMO. With Bowles and Mac now and their method of operation, the respect should return real soon and we may even start to be liked a little bit. However; the little brother modo will never leave until we win a SB and it would also help "IF WE GOT OUR OWN DAMN STADIUM BACK IN NY"

I was looking at the plans for the West Side Stadium(??) which were tied into the Olympic bid. Stadium looked good.

I take it we would never go for our own Stadium now?

That's a Damn shame if this is true. The jets have been known as a team that moved in with the Giants and left NY to do so more then 30 years ago. Since then, it seemed to be all down hill. Before us leaving Shea, the Jets had their own identity and the Giants had theirs. They shared the NY-NJ area equally IMO. But now we fall into the same aspect as the Clippers with the Lakers. Not good!

BTW mods, can we merge some of these threads? Its getting ridiculous with all the new threads pretty much being about the same topic. Amazing how when were winning, we are posting like crazy and making new threads like wild fire. When were losing, we still posting like crazy but we seem to stay on the same threads and there aren't anywhere as many new threads. I'm getting confused as to much which ones I posted on last, LOL!

I think all of the other stuff is correct, but in terms of no love this year, it's the laziness of writers and the "all knowing pundits". This team is nothing like the 4-12 team last year, but the aforementioned gurus can't let go of 4-12.

Give it time...the narrative from last year doesn't shed it's skin until the first quarter of this year is behind up. If we win against PHIL, you'll start to hear about the key additions/subtractions we made, and how the Jets are a team to be reckoned with!

Yes, it's a misconception on your part. It's that no one pays attention to the Bills and Jets because they haven't been in the mix of successful, winning teams. Wrecks Ryan has put both of these teams in the limelight, for all the wrong reasons...he's a big mouth, that can't back his mouth up.

Don't worry, by the end of this season, the Jets will be in the news as winners and Mr. Bowles is going to put them there. Personally, I don't think Buffalo is going to be all that successful, nor the Colts, the Cowboys (with Romo out), and the Ravens.

In the end you'll see the Packers, Pats, Steelers, Jets, Broncos at the top. The Colts, Seahawks, and Ravens should have not been that high, but now the real coaches are passing the floozies!

Coaching is really what this league is about, you'll see.

Think the next chance for their own stadium is 2031. :)

Honestly, it never bothered me. Particularly the new stadium. On game day it's all green

The plans for our current stadium looked good too, the end result is never what they sell you on.

The west side stadium was a couple years ago, ny voted it down.
