Coples - GONE

Holy carp! Cyborg and I fought about Coples something awful since we drafted him. I wanted nothing to do with the low-motor SOB. Cy was completely in love with his potential. Cy even bet me a steak dinner that Coples was going to have a breakout season last year. bastard never would admit he was wrong, lol.

Talk about a wake-up call to the team!

LOL

I've been a Que fan since they drafted him. I was confident enough he would get 10 sacks this year, that I am going to have to pay $100 to a friend who is a Giants fan and gave me 3-1 next Sunday.

Oh well, you would think I would know better then to bet on the Jets :)
i remember you being excited about the prospects of coples excelling in bowles' defense.. hell, i remember it getting my hopes up as well..

but great physical gifts with limited desire almost never works in the NFL..

coples is just the latest example..

Really to bad about Coples. Has all that talent but no heart for the game & takes too many plays off in games. Now I wished Jets had taken Chandler Jones Dafted by the Panties instead of Coples. I will say this about Coples, when he decided to try, he was on the QB. I was hoping for a Kleco-Gastineau type player from Coples instead as Kleco said, Coples looks like Tarzan & plays like Jane.

Just saw a Adam Schefter tweet too.

That is somewhat surprising considering he was a number 1 pick.

He just didnt fit as an OLB
Ofcourse not, a 280 plus pounder that's not julius peppers or terrell suggs (and I don't think he weighs that much) won't be able to play LB. Coples should have never been playing LB in the first place. He's a DE and maybe he wasn't good at that but he damn sure wasn't a LB. I would of thought Bowles would have figured that out and switched his position or traded him but I guess not. He'll go to the Patriots now and become a superstar playing his natural position.

I guess and I'm hoping Mauldin moves in now as the starting LB in his place. We need the speed and heart and natural players at that position playing. Hopefully they get Pace and Cro replaced also. Like TOMORROW!

Bowles comments on Coples release from NYJets.com:

www.newyorkjets.com/news/article-ra...-Release/a0499e64-9494-49e5-9c09-18bf7efb9832

Todd Bowles said the waiving of linebacker Quinton Coples, the 16th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, was based on the numbers game that football sometimes is.

Coples, the Jets head coach told reporters on a conference call this afternoon, "just wasn't playing. I was trying to get a spot [for him] earlier and we didn't have a spot. We weren't playing him, he hasn't been getting any time. It's just a business move. It was nothing personal."

Specifically, Bowles said there were no issues between Coples and him or any other coaches that led to the release: "Absolutely not."

He also said there was no message to the team wrapped up in a transaction involving a former No. 1 pick after the Jets lost for the fourth time in five games to the Texans in Houston on Sunday.
"We're not trying to send a message," he said. "We're just trying to play good football players and we're trying to play guys that want to play and are ready to play. And obviously along the way, whether we're winning or losing, we still have to make business decisions, and that was just one of them."

Bowles said it was not a case of Coples not being ready to play as much as him being involved in the business decision. The coach wouldn't discuss an imminent course of action but he did confirm that he and general manager Mike Maccagnan "have something in mind" regarding the roster spot that's now opened. "I'm not going to divulge that at this time," he said, "but we do have something that we're looking at."

For all those criticizing Bowles for being too laid back, there's no doubt this was a message. Period.

When I read he was talking about 10 sacks, I chuckled to myself. We could of had Chandler Jones. I was fine when we drafted Coples, but he's been just a tad over a bust. :34:

Chandler Jones was as expected, but Coples had a huge upside in risk -reward. Coples heart wasnt in it & maybe another place & Coach can bring out the best in him. Being cut might be a wake up call for Coples who has talent but lets hope its NOT with the Panties that he finds it. Billy Boy likes doing that taking Jets Players we cut & beating us to death with them.

here is the issue, Coples was and is what Sheldon Richardson in scheme fit.

at North Carolina, QC played interior lineman in a 4-3 (Defensive Tackle) then his senior year they moved him to Rush End in the 4-3 which stunted any growth he had. He didn't play well but the production was still kinda of there.

here comes Rex must of been so enamored with QC's athleticism but ignored that he struggled from adapting from interior to outside rusher. To then put him through outside linebacker drills was straight foolish. The Jets could of had Coples adjust to the RE or DT position in then our 3-4 defense. Would of it made a difference, no one could know but moving this kid from position to position killed any chance he had to have a successful career.

unfortunately it did NOT work out here but he will be picked up by someone going to use his abilities in the proper role. as a UNC alumni I hope him the best in his future endeavors and am disappointed it couldn't be with my beloved Jets.

I don't see how this can be taken any other way: do you want to play, or don't you? is the message.

Who's next?

I don't think Coples lacked the ability to be a very good player. I think he lacked the fire in his belly. He was a non-factor for long stretches, and that's inexcusable for a guy built like that. I agree that if he's put in the right position (interior lineman), he can make an impact. As Bowles said, he didn't have a position on this team.

I wanted chandler also as a big SU fan saw plenty of his games, I was hoping we could trade back a few spots and still grab chandler.

Most definitely! A 1st rd. pick from 2012 getting the axe is a definite message no matter what anyone says.

Now hopefully TB sharpens up on some of his in game decisions.
