Bowles: Fitzpatrick Is the Starting Quarterback

Has absolutely nothing to do with Geno, They could cut Geno tomorrow and I would not care much, though I do think he should get a last chance,

What pissed me off is continuing to trot a QB out there who has proven over TEN years that he:

1. Cannot be a winning team (once since 2011)

2. Cannot lead a comeback (9 total in 10 tears)

3. Has never won more than 6 games and right now looks like that could continue

4. Cannot stretch the field and move the safety out of the box

5. Despite his "harvard" education does not make good decisions on the field

6. Locks on to receivers

7. Threw 3 interceptions in the last 2 weeks in situations at the end of gameswhere he needed to step up

8. Has shown no ability to adjust plays in key situations, usually going for the quickest option he can find

But the supporters will say "teammates love him!", "Decker has a Fitzmagic shirt" and the best one:

"He is a leader!", not even sure what that one means anyway other than being an impressive soundbite:

"Ryan Fitzpatrick, a HARVARD graduate, is a natural leader that has the unflagging support of all his teammates. In fact, they are so behind him that they do not even care that other teams just like in years past have completely figured out how to stop him. No, "Fitzgerald is our QB" Bowles says, pointing out that none of the slide is on Fitz, because "he puts it all on the line" and his "teammates are 100& behind him because he is a "leader". So expect to the Jets to continue to slide and miss the playoffs because there really is no one better to lead them there in truth than a weak armed dump off artist that has never won more than 6 games in his career. No, there is just no better choice for mediocrity than Ryan Fitzpatrick, Harvard man, leader"

I have yet to see any one on here refer to Fitz as a Franchise, or elite QB. The simple truth of the matter is Fitz is, by far, the best QB on the roster right now.

Hopefully next year Petty will change that, and Fitz's role will be to make Petty the best QB it is possible he can be. I think he will be excellent in that role. Simply because he is an intelligent, some what limited tools, unselfish man.

If it doesn't work out for Petty next year, Fitz will "hold the fort" for another season if necessary. If the Jets can upgrade at the position with a trade, I'm all for that to.

Fitz is not the the worst QB in the league, by a long shot. He's an 11 year vet, and a "Hold the Fort Guy". I'm not for bringing in another vet just to make a change. Fitz certainly doesn't deserve a lot of unwarranted, mindless hatred dumped on him. "Just because"

I simply do not agree with that, whether or not Bowles makes the switch. At this point, I think both Geno and Petty would be more effective. Also, there is zero "mindless" hatred, there are 10 very real facts to which the response is an emotional "well he is better than Geno" argument which if you look at the last 5 games Geno has played is not a true statement in the least.

Well, the people who's livelihood depend on it, and have been in the NFL for decades strongly disagree with your view. The CS clearly doesn't think smith is an upgrade. His performance at the end of the Raiders game, I'm sure cemented it.

I know, I know, you hate Bowles also and think he should be fired after 10 games , because he won't play smith.

Fortunately the smart people running the Jets saw more than enough in the second part of the Raider game to make the correct choices

Smith clearly has not shown the coaching staff anything this year. He was likely going to start the season, if for no other reason than they had to see if he was a keeper, and from the moment the fist hit his jaw until now, whatever he's done has convinced these guys that see him every day that he's not a guy that they can trust at the position. If we get to garbage time and we still don't see him, he'll be cut as soon as logistically possible. That's as close to fact as we fans can get.

i think in bowles' eyes, smith was no longer in the running to be the starter under his watch as soon as he found out why smith got rocked in the first place..

frankly IMO, bowles should have been aware of the smith/IK/$600 feud festering right under his nose..

but bowles was in the middle of running his first training camp so he gets a pass on that, in my book anyway..

I agree. I also think how the team reacted to his getting popped played a role in it also.

Keep in mind that 2 weeks before the season started Bowles said they were still bringing in potential JAG QB's because they were unsure of Fitz's availability to start.

I think Gailey's pronouncement in OTA's that smith would be the starter, was more related to them questioning whether Fitz would be available for the first couple of games then it was to any confidence they had in smith
