Good spot either way. Atl gives him the good QB and offense he has always needed. 49ers give a good defense to work with and the QB type he loves so much.

Rex Ryan is a man in demand for NFL teams on the hunt for a new head coach.

NFL Media's Kimberly Jones reported Tuesday that the erstwhile New York Jets coach has interviews scheduled with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers for their head-coach openings, per a source aware of the plans.

Brian Costello of the New York Post had the first report.

The Falcons reached out to Ryan one day after dismissing Mike Smith. On Sunday, the Niners "mutually parted ways" with Jim Harbaugh. Ryan spent the past six seasons with the Jets, going 46-50 in that time with a 4-2 record in the playoffs. Ryan's teams missed the playoffs in each of the past four seasons, including a 4-12 meltdown in 2014. Ryan and general manager John Idzik were let go Monday.

Ryan has earned the reputation as a gifted defensive mind who struggles to field a team with a competent offense. This would make Atlanta a logical landing spot with a franchise quarterback already entrenched in Matt Ryan. It's also easy to imagine 49ers brass getting excited about the prospect of Ryan coaching up a defense with stars like Aldon Smith, NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis.

Ryan charmed Jets management in his interview in 2009, earning his first head-coaching job after 10 years as a defensive assistant with the Ravens. Now he gets another opportunity to put his undeniable charisma to good use.

Pray Rex doesn't get the 9'ers job.

We could very well be seeing him hoisting a trophy. Wouldn't that break our hearts.

Still better then him taking over the Fish next year after Philbin gets fired, which he will. They are already moaning down here to fire Philbin and hire Rex.

I hope Rex takes his job this year

1 WRECKS is not getting either of jobs. Teams are not looking for boasting 1/3 of Head Coaches anymore

2 WRECKS will never come within two feet of hoisting any trophy other than his much coveted Snoopy Bowl trophy

3 And all that stuff

Woody Johnson has already told all Jets assistants (under contract or not for 2015) that they're free to explore other opportunities #nyj

Normal when the HC is fired.

Any HC with half a brain is bringing as many of his guys with him as he can

It will be devastating if the Jets lose Sanjay Lal, Thomas McGaughey, Louie Aguilar and Tony Sparano Jr.

A good example....Two years into his tenure as DC, Thurman was still merely repeating WRECKS' calls on every snap

he already is headed to college and how Sanjay still gets hired is beyond me.

Ryan will not be in a booth next year.. he said it himself he has alot of people / coaches that depend on him. If he is offered a HC job he will take it. He will not sit it out for a year

He's proved he is an awful HC

Other teams have eyes..

Bigmouth needs to grab the first DC job somebody offers him or be prepared to sit at a desk in a bad fitting suit and tie, chuckle and pretend he thinks something Michael Irvin or Heath Evans says is witty and coherent

Disagree....I think Rex in ATL is more of a chance at the trophy
49ers already have the D....need offense
I think ATL and Chicago would be better fits

As long as Rex is in the NFC I'm OK, and happy for him. Don't want to see him in Buffalo, or Miami next year
