Thankfully, the 2014 season for the New York Jets is finally over. It was nothing but a gut-wrenching roller coaster for most, if not all, of its die-hard fans. Although many might be weary of the team’s future prospects and are bracing themselves for a rebuilding year. I, however, feel very strongly that this franchise is not far from turning things around. Seven of the twelve losses were by one score which highlights just how close this team was to success in 2014.
The most important factor in having a successful 2015 campaign will in no doubt be who the owner Woody Johnson decides to hire as the new General Manager and Head coach of the Jets. After relieving John Idzik and Rex Ryan of their duties on Monday, Woody has called upon the capable minds of Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf who combine for over 40 years of NFL experience. They will be advisors to Woody in his quest to hire an adequate front office. I see this as a very strong move by Woody Johnson and shows his intentions of trying to move this, frankly pitiful franchise forward in the coming years. Casserly, Wolf and Johnson, however, must not make the same mistake that the Jets made the last time they hired a General Manager. It’s been obvious that Idzik, after two seasons with New York, had no idea of how to draft any franchise talent bar Sheldon Richardson, and even that seemed like a Rex pick.
