Power Struggle In Philly Getting Pretty Feisty Between Chip Kelly and their GM

So there is lot's of bad blood between Chip Kelly and the Eagles' GM Howie Roseman.

The person that paid the price for this feud was Tom Gamble who was Chip Kelly's hand picked personnel guy. Gamble had to get escorted out of the Eagles' complex once told of the firing.

Roseman is an Idzik/Tannenbaum type that has a background in managing the cap but he's been trying to get that image of him out of people's minds and wants to be known as a well versed person. Roseman has the full support of the Eagles Owner, Jeffrey Lurie.

Chip kind of poked fun of him during a year-end conference which probably led to this whole mess. When asked about the job Roseman has done, Chip just spoke about his cap ability and praised Gamble for the players they have. The very next day is when Gamble was fired!!

Looks like Kelly will probably be fired by next year, if his team doesn't make the playoffs again.

What do you think of Kelly's job coaching the Eagles?

Here's a great article on what's happening out there in Philly.

Gamble was the guy we were rumored to have picked last time at GM. I remember them saying it was very close then it fell apart for some reason. It was weeks later before we got Idzik.

Turns out that Chip has now been promoted and is in charge of player personnel.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000453147/article/chip-kelly-to-run-personnel-department-in-philadelphia

A day of rumors and innuendo regarding the Philadelphia Eagles' power structure has ended in a double promotion.

The Eagles announced Friday evening that head coach Chip Kelly will now oversee the player personnel department, while general manager Howie Roseman will be elevated to the role of executive vice president of football operations. Roseman also received a contract extension.

The recent departure of Eagles vice president of player personnel Tom Gamble raised a lot of questions in Philadelphia, not to mention a hilarious newspaper cover referencing a power struggle between Roseman and Kelly. Gamble was known as a close confidant of Kelly's, inspiring some to wonder if Kelly could be headed elsewhere.

Kelly will now run the scouting department, much like former coach Andy Reid. Kelly will also lead efforts to hire a new personnel executive that will report to him. Kelly will now pick the players and will have final say over personnel decisions.

"When I said -- after the Giants game -- that Howie was returning as general manager next season, I meant that," owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. "But after carefully listening and reflecting on the lengthy discussions that I had with our senior team, I changed my mind.

"I have a very good relationship with Chip that continues to grow stronger and stronger. When we spoke, he was thoughtful, thorough and professional. There were no demands, no threats -- quite the contrary -- he was passionate, engaged and articulated a dynamic and clear vision on how this fully integrated approach will work. We look forward to seeing it come to life over time."

This sounds like Kelly's vision come to life. Roseman gets a promotion and more money, but he loses personnel control. Roseman will continue to direct "contract negotiations, salary cap management, and NFL strategic matters, while overseeing the team's medical staff, equipment staff and more."

Roseman, only 39, rises to a title that often takes luminaries an entire career to get to. (Mike Shanahan and John Elway are two names with a similar "Executive VP" title that comes to mind.)

"Philadelphia is my home and the Eagles are my family. My number one goal is to help bring a championship to this city and that will never change," Roseman said in a statement. "I believe this will solidify the trust we have all placed in Coach Kelly."

Kelly's statement also stressed "working together" with owner Jeff Lurie and Roseman. It comes on the heels of many local reports saying that Roseman and Kelly's working relationship was strained.

In the end, the Eagles will live or die with Kelly's coaching and personnel decisions. Few coaches have been able to pull this off well. If it doesn't work out for Kelly in Philadelphia, Roseman will likely outlive him with the Eagles.

From what I remember, it didn't end well with Gamble the first time. I seem to recall him making some derogatory comments about Woody after his interview. I can't remember the details, but there was some bad blood or at least sour grapes. I'll see if I can find any references to it. But there was something's that were said after the interview was over.

Jets31 is right. Gamble was at the top of the pack last year. He even cancelled a jags interview to focus on the jets interview. Wonder what happened and we soured on him.

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2013/01/jets_gm_search_tom_gamble_rema.html

The Jets are prepared to re-introduce their head coach, Rex Ryan, and owner, Woody Johnson on Tuesday after a nine-day period of silence.

Having a new general manager there to accompany them, though, seems very unlikely.

Tom Gamble, the 49ers' director of player personnel, has moved well out ahead of the pack, according to a person with knowledge of the search. The person requested anonymity because the Jets are not making details of the hiring process public. Gamble recently turned down a second interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars to focus on securing the Jets job, according to multiple reports.

However, Gamble will interview for the Chargers GM job on Tuesday, according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter. This means that the Jets will eye other candidates as well. Marc Ross, the Giants director of scouting, will come in for an interview Monday. Jets assistant GM Scott Cohen will also be considered for the position. He is running interim football operations alongside former GM and current senior personnel executive Terry Bradway.

Aside from a solid background in player development, scouting and personnel, Gamble was also a quality control coach with the Jets between 1995 and 1996. In his first job, he worked with Rex Ryan’s father, Buddy, who was then head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has been friends with Rex for more than 20 years.

But more importantly, Gamble has had years of experience monitoring undrafted free agents and studying NFL rosters. In assisting 49ers GM Trent Baalke, his job was to bolster depth – something the top-heavy Jets desperately need. A bare-bones roster behind superstars like Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes was exposed quickly during a 6-10 campaign in 2012.

The Jets have also interviewed Falcons player personnel director Dave Caldwell, who is reportedly a finalist for the Jaguars’ GM job. Packers director of football operations John Dorsey is reportedly still in the mix.

Sorry, the guy I was thinking about was Ted Sundquist from the Broncos. I can't find the details, but he was saying or tweeting some stuff after his interview with the Jets. He was talking out of school.

I recall that also. Think Gamble squawked about no foot ball talk, then the Jets leaked he didn't interview well. And that was that.

Can't imagine how bad the interview went, cause Idzik wasn't exactly a charmer.

LOLz at least with the jets..

A lot of these scouting orientated candidates were freaked out that there were no football people in the interviews, and no X and O talk.

Woody seems to have learned his lesson................Hopefully
