Do we stick with Geno if we can't get Winston or Mariota?

Forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic but I'm new here and didn't see it. My question is if the Jets aren't able to draft Winston or Mariota, do they stick with Geno? With the 6th pick both QBs will most likely be gone. I believe Cooper will also. If this will be the case, what will the Jets do then? I don't trust or want Geno anymore. IMO that week 17 performance was a once in a lifetime thing and not a indication of what he will be next year.

It was even more frustrating to see what Geno did that day because it makes you wonder what happened to doing that all year long? You wait to week 17 when it means nothing to perform like this! Geno has all the tools to be a very good to great QB but does he have it upstairs? Is he a natural born leader and is he tough enough to do it in NY-NJ and do it in a NY Jets uniform? So I ask you Jets faithful, should the Jets get another vet QB to start or draft a QB in the second round if Winston and Mariota are gone?

Agree with most of what you said except that Smith has the tools to be great. Smith has the tools to be a career back up IMO.

With that said my worst nightmare is to see Smith under center opening day 2015. The Fish win I suspect is one of those that we are going to be talking about 5 years from now. Not in a good way.

Imo if Winston slides just a bit, I trade up and get him. The Titians aren't a shoo in to take him. They seem pretty happy with Zack. I would definitely be calling them on draft day

It is going to depend on the coach..........I know for sure marrone doesn't think he is good he has whipped him everytime they have played college and pros.

Maybe we can get Nassib from the Giants or marrone can talk to orton and have him come out of retirement.

yeah, mariota & winston are long shots at 6.. i believe the jets will bring in a JAG veteran as well as a drafting a QB to compete with our village idiot geno smith..

smith playing his best game as a pro in a meaningless game was aggravating but not shocking to me..

neither was him talking like "mr seasoned vet" afterwards..

I don't think we even need to trade up if the Titans don't draft Winston. All the other teams drafting ahead of us won't be going QB so why would we? If the Jets get scared the Titans will draft him then I guess they have no choice. The Titans are in the perfect position to play the head game with us or any other team being we think there is a chance they might draft Winston. Dammit!

Even if we do by some miracle draft Mariota or Winston, the Jets should sign a vet and have a QB competition between that veteran, Geno and the rookie.

The best man should get the job.

Welcome by the way. Glad you were able to join!

Don't forget Simms. Now that, hopefully, the QB competition is level, maybe he can squeeze Smith off the team

Good point but I honestly don't think he'd beat out Smith. I like Simms and wanted him to start this season but I don't see him having what it takes to beat out Smith.

Smith performs well in the summer. Do you remember KRLs training camp reports? Geno looked all-world.

I believe until we get a top 10 QB, we will not be able to play with the big boys.

I would be all for spending whatever it takes to move up in the draft for a top prospect QB... IF one were there. I don't believe Mariota or Winston are a sure thing and would be worth what it would take to go get them. Maybe one or both will be good, but I'm not betting the farm on them and neither will a smart GM. It's slim pickings in free agency. Sanchez is one of the top free agents and that says it all. As for trading, Cutler is a polarizing figure and there is no guarantee he would be successful. I am guessing he won't be traded anyway. Who else could we get that would be better than Geno?

As much as we need to upgrade at QB, I just don't see a viable alternative. Geno is highly likely to start in 2015.

Wow! Your post is so right but makes me so sad. I can't imagine another season with Geno at the helm. We need to improve the offensive line big time if that's the case

We could always make a trade.

Thanks. I do agree they should sign a vet regardless and the best man should win. So there should be a open competition. However, if we can manage to draft either QB, is there a chance the Jets can trade Geno for let's say a fourth rounder? Think anyone will bite?

Hmmm not sure if anyone will bite. Geno has been the worst rated qb for two seasons now. Teams prob have more of a chance that someone from the draft helping them ths Geno
