Dont'a Hightower: Pats and Jets

That's just not the case. Brady will have higher cap numbers in '18 and '19. After that he can be cut. It seems the only guys taking less are Pats because they want to win.

If one team with a history of cheating is the only team that somehow manages to get guys to sign for less, doesn't that raise a red flag?

Not big into conspiracy theories, but...

I'd say they are. They have zero loyalty to anyone but winning. They'd cut Brady in a nanosecond if it helped the team just a little bit. No loyalty, no sentimentality.

I agree, I believe Hightower knows this very well and teams that are in conversations with him bring this to the forefront too, a well as cup cakes.

I believe it will be between Pittsburgh and the Jets in all honesty. Though the Pats, knowing that Brady hasnt alot of years left may match the highest offer. The way New England is spending right now is an anomally.

I'am all for signing Hightower, but if he continues to prolong his decision, Mike should consider Kevin Minter. probably 1/2 of what we're offering Hightower and will open up more cap space as we'd cut ties with David Harris, whose been a stud with this franchise. Though his prime has past.

The Kraft empire has the means to funnel money without it hitting the cap. Basically all of these guys can probably do it without it being noticed.

At this point after 50+ years of rooting I can justify a little cheating to win one let alone 5 Superbowls.

Hightower know's where he's going. He is just enjoying being wined and dined as all the top FA do. When that's over, he'll sign back with the Pats.

I'd be shocked if we sign him. I'd be happy but shocked. He's a very good player. My guess is that he winds up in either Pittsburgh or New England. Neither team is known for overpaying - and if he wants to win, he is going to go to one of those teams. If he wants to be part of building something over the next two or three years, he will come here for more money. My guess is that he wants to win. I think the Steelers window is closing though. Rothlisberger has may be one or two years left.

My sense is Hightower back to the Pats, but with his price tag raised by the negotiations, and Minter to the Jets and Bowles. If so, I am fine with that. It could lead to Harris being released, and that cap relief pretty much negating the cost of the signing.

Ultimately, I can live with that.

Just read that Minter is visiting Indy today and Cincinnati tomorrow. Doesn't sound like the Jets are in the mix yet, if at all.

Why would he want to come to the Jets?? Everyone should just face the fact that they will be playing with draft picks and UDFA's. The Jets are not a desirable location right now.

Vacchiano and La Canfora both saying Jets have bigger offer on the table than Pittsburgh. Steelers gave Hightower a take it or leave it offer. He left today without a contract.

This could happen. If NE has a limit on what they'll pay, and the Jets go 12-12.5 per year, this might happen. Hightower has two rings. Now he can get paid his highest value while he's at his peak. He just has to resign himself to losing for a few years.

We have the biggest offer on the table. It's sad that that in itself won't be the deciding factor. He's set to make his choice today.

Crossing my fingers.

I do believe bb doesn't make mistakes when letting guys walk, but he is known to cut bait a little early to avoid bad contacts.
He let chandler Jones go for nothing almost, abs he had a good season and Arizona locked him up. So there is precedent for quality free agents leaving ne.

But would you? Would any of us?

When faced with the choice of an employer, how many here have taken offers for less money?

In my opinion, Hightower would come here for three reasons - first, he believes there is talent on the front seven and he could be the leader of this defense along with Williams. Secondly, he likes the coaches and would enjoy playing for them. And third and most obviously, he wants more money and this is his chance to cash in. I don't believe he wants to join a franchise he thinks has no shot of winning in the next couple of years. He must believe that this team has enough talent to compete next year and the year after that. If things go right for the Jets, I believe that is true as well. They have to get better at a number of positions, but this team can rebuild quickly with a good draft this year.

Defensively this team really needs only a CB... Especially if Hightower signes with us and offensively a QB who does not make mistakes and turns the ball over... Those 2 things with better coaching will make last years 5-11 team a 9-7 team..... Now add a high level QB....assume continued growth with Enunwa and Anderson , a solid TE and a good pass rusher and this team can cook with fire quickly... But that's asking a lot I think with a good draft this year and next 2018 we will be competitive and 2019 in the playoffs but again we gotta find a QB. A high level QB can mask a lot of holes in other areas,

If I'm Dont'a Hightower I'm thinking about the money. Why not? He's in the prime of his career, will probably be on the decline or finished in 5 years at the age of what, 33? He'll still be a young man. With a lot of life left.

He's been to the promised land twice. It's time to get a nice payday. He's earned it. Would an extra 1-2 million per year make a difference to me? Hell YES it would.

I still think we're underdogs here, but I'm hoping he picks us.

I'm still a little down on the safety situation. Not sold on Pryor/Gilchrist moving forward. And yes, we need a CB badly. There's some interest in 31 year old Carr from Dallas. Offensively, I'm good with the o-line and RB's. Not sure Decker and Enunwa is enough at WR. I'm not as optimistic about Robby Anderson as others here. I'd like to see ASJ utilized more in this offense.
