Browns Talking To Jets About Trade Up For Mitch Trubisky?

Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball reports that the Browns and Jets are talking about a potential trade that would allow Cleveland to move up to No. 6 overall to select a quarterback with UNC’s Mitch Trubisky being the likely target.

According to Campbell, the Jets would want the No. 33 overall and the No. 108 picks from the Browns in this trade. However, the Browns reportedly prefer to trade their No. 52 overall pick along with their No. 145 selection to move up for Trubisky.

Campbell adds that even if the Browns lose Trubisky to another team, it’s still possible Cleveland could move up for Clemson’s Deshaun Watson.

Given that there are so many variables in this scenario, Campbell says it’s likely that any team won’t happen until a team is on the clock.

Previous reports have said that it could be tough for teams looking to move back this year to get the same kind of compensation as others have received in recent years for premium picks.

Matt Miller also mentions that “it definitely sounds like” the Browns are trying to trade up from No. 12 overall for Trubisky. Miller has heard the Titans at No. 5 overall and the Jets at No. 6 are both targets for Cleveland as they try to get ahead of the Bills for Trubisky.

There has been some talk that the Browns could consider Trubisky at No. 1 overall. However, no one appears to be buying this idea.

Trubisky, 22, is considered by a number of draft experts to be the No. 1 quarterback prospect in this year’s draft class, even though he started just one year at North Carolina.

Trubisky has worked out for or visited with the Bills, 49ers, Jets, Chiefs and Browns.

During his three-year college career, Trubisky has thrown for 4,762 yards while completing 67.5 percent of his passes to go along with 41 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over the course of 31 games. He’s also contributed another 439 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

Do it Mac for the 12, 33, and 108. And then Mac could trade that #33 pick for more picks.

If this happened, it would be a draft day deal, when the Jets were on the clock. Otherwise, if they did it beforehand, a team with their eye on Trubisky might jump ahead of that #6 pick.

I guess we all have to assume that the 12th is included although never mentioned.

Would you do the deal if the twelfth pick isn't included and you just get the 2 and 3?? I wouldn't. I would be shocked that the Jets would consider it too, so I am in agreement with you that the 12th pick must be in the deal.

yes the 12th pick is included, the debate or discussion is if we get the higher of the two (2nd & 4th) for them to move up six spots...

only way I would even consider making a trade where the 12th pick wasn't involved would be both 2nds and 3rd along with 2018 1st and even then still not enough... BUT that 2018 1st round could be a top 5 pick so maybe...

I was being sarcastic about the poor writing, doubt MM would consider any deal unless their 12th this year or as GMF suggested a 1st next year was included.

The Jets have so many holes and it just so happens this draft is loaded with talent?

Lets let common sense take over here....

You have to strike while the iron is hot, right?! Mac should make this trade. He's failed to trade down in two drafts now and the Jets are still floundering as a laughingstock. His reputation is beginning to flounder if it hasn't already? I still remember Mac talking the big game before his first draft... "I would prefer to trade and accumulate more picks". He said back then and now in his third draft he's still waiting to consummate a single trade down.

The Jets NEED a shit load of talent. Mac will NEVER rebuild this team solely using his normal compliment of picks. He MUST use FA and trade downs to build this team into a competitor. There's no other way.

If he does not start to make some trades, down or UP for that matter, we will be looking at firing Mac and starting all over again with another GM.

My advice to Mac is simple......Get off your fat A$$ and start building this team. I am thoroughly unimpressed with you as a GM. Two years in, this team sucks as bad, if not worse then when you got started. This draft is a make or break one for you? If you do not start to show why you were considered to be such a great hire back in 2015, you are going to be OUT. The honeymoon is over. Start doing your fucking job. It's really that simple?

There's NO reason why Jets fans should not be EXPECTING a great draft that yields at least 3 starters, if not more.......

I would be perfectly happy with a trade #6 for #12, and #52. In this draft there is a real chance to find productive starters through round 4. Jets need to fill a lot of holes, a trade down is the way to go.

Of course it's always better to get as much as you can in a trade, but I hope Macc doesn't get to cute and let the trade go south over a few chart points.

IMO 12 and 52 is fair in this draft

if the Bills want Trubisky, and he is there at 6, what would they give? If Bills would give 10 and 44, then Browns need to give 12 and 33 and maybe a smidge more. How real the possibility is that Bills - or someone else - is bidding determines how much we can get.

Exactly... Lets hope it happens... If we can get any deal to trade down and still stay in the top 12 and gran an extra 2nd. Do it in a heartbeat... If we can squeeze a 2nd rd and a 5th rd pick out of a team... That would be great

Maybe we pick him and trade him to Browns for picks... we'll see I guess.

....

in 2015 the jets were quite active making trades. macc traded pick #70 for #82, #152 and #229. he also traded pick #142 for brandon marshall and pick #224

You're fooling yourself if you think wee were ever a 2 year project. This is a5 year rebuild, as I have said constantly after idzik was booted.

We cannot afford to lose 4 starting players from the first 2 rounds by drafting bench warming qbs. I hated the hack pick pick because I've always felt we need to draft well for about 3 years, then get aggressive at qb. I'd be fine drafting aqb in the 4th every year just to keep a pipeline going.

I think you overvalue trades. Picking good players is first and foremost. Remember parcels traded back twice in the same draft, and we were no better off. Trades for the sake of trading isn't the answer. Every year, and trade offer is an individual assessment.

I would take the browns 33 this year, and their highest 1st first rounder next year. We might need picks to trade up for Sam if we get 3 or 4 wins this year.

I don't over value trades, MAC does. He talks about his preferences to trade down and accumulate picks. He talked the big game before his 1st draft and yet no big trades were consummated for early draft players. Now he talks the trade game again this year.

look at this. Mac has NOT been active in FA at all despite the Jets having more holes than I have ever seen this team have. MAC, and no one else, has all of his eggs in one basket. This season's success and/or failure all boils down to the draft.

I agree this should have been a 5 year rebuild. But after completely failing at a "competitive rebuild", this team is as bad or worse than in 2014. So Mac is starting this rebuild AGAIN. That's not 5 years, that's a minimum of 7 years?

Don't blame anything on me, this is merely pointing out that Mac is getting another opportunity after he completely fucked up the first. It's also IMO you letting your blind love of the Jets get in the way of your better objective judgment.

I disagree with your 7 year assessment. The competitive rebuild was good. We watched an exciting team, none off the contracts backfired, it didn't prevent us from drafting.

Three five year rebuild is about drafting future contributors, saving cap room, getting younger.
Being active in free agency when we have zero chance of competing would be counter productive. My opinion is that woody gave Mac the ok to save cap room and let the kids play. Also, who would you have wasted us to sign that we didn't? A player would also want to join a complete rebuild, and most guys we would have signed, wouldn't be here in 3 years anyway.
