because woody with the help of your pal casserly & wolf got their guys on their own terms..
no more waiting for quinn..
no hoping mcdermott would impress..
what more could we as jet fans hoped for in replacing both our HC & GM??
What more could we have hoped for?? I'm glad you asked. As a Jets fan I was hoping that these two gentlemen had skills that will result in success on the field. Is there anything in their track record that they did well that might help me conclude that if they did it there, they might do it here?
Anything?
Does Maccagnan's track record on draft selections inspire us fans? Has he found any diamonds in the later round rough? Did he sign any undrafted free agents that turned out well? Does Mr. Maccaggnan have an expertise in contracts and cap management? Please don't tell me we just hired Casserly's friend of 20 years because he interviews well? and Casserly vouched for him? How has Maccaggnan distinguished himself over the past 5-10 years to propel himself to become GM of the Jets? Why were the Jets the only team to interview this guy? As a Jets fan I think those are fair questions. Does anyone think those are unfair questions?
Same thing with Bowles. What has he done that distinguishes him from the 12 or so candidates or even the guy we just fired? Did we hire him because he looks great on the sidelines and interviews well? Last time I looked the NFL games don't account for interview skills. What does he bring to the table? How will he help us win? Over the past 2 years, his defenses in Arizona were pretty good, nothing great. Roughly on par with Rex's defenses here.
These seem fare questions ... no?
I really want to happy about these selections. But this is what I fear:
We hired Casserly's friend of 20 years who interviewed very well. Of course we will never know if Casserly prepped him. This friend, Maccagnon, was never interviewed by any another team. The Jets stand alone. He was on no one's radar as far as I know. His involvement in drafts with Texas is unknown, which is good because Houston's drafts during his time there were mediocre at best. The selection of JJ Watt preceded Maccagnan's position as Scouting Director. In addition, Maccagnan has no experience in contracts or cap etc. He's a "football guy". So basically we hired Casserly's long term undistinguished friend. I hope that works out well. I really do.
Bowles ... He looks the part. Maybe he can lure Dick Labeau?
I don't predict failure. It's worse that that. I hope for the best, but predict mediocrity.
