One of the perks of the NFL's rookie wage scale is that it rewards lower draft picks with pay raises if they meet a certain playing-time standard. Such is the case with a couple of defensive players on the New York Jets, linebacker Demario Davis and defensive back Antonio Allen.

Players drafted between round three to seven in 2012 get pay raises of close to $1 million if they played 35 percent of the offensive or defensive snaps in two of the last three years.

Instead of earning $660,000 in 2015, Davis -- a former third-round pick -- will draw a base salary of $1.524 million. He easily qualified, having played in 95 percent and 99 percent of the snaps in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Because he's a former seventh-round pick, Allen gets a slightly larger bump, going from $660,000 to $1.574 million. He played in 49 percent and 50 percent over the last two years.

Both players will be free agents after 2015.

Davis definitely deserves a raise. He has been a very good player for the Jets. I'm a bit concerned about Allen. He had an excellent year in 2013. Was the Jets best cover S

Last year due to Idzik's dumbness, at the beginning of the season, not only was he the best cover S, he was the best cover CB. He just didn't have the speed to play the position. They send him back to S, and he looked very confused. Just to much going on in his head.

Hopefully with another off season, and camp to work on S tools he'll be back to 2013 level of play

Dumb Idzik went to Woody to sign Vontae Davis, but could not offer him an overwhelming contract to get him to leave the Colts because Woody was burned before. So Davis will play in the AFC title game. Dumb Idzik also went to Woody with the idea of signing Revis, not as enthusiastically as with Davis, but still was rejected by Woody (Rex was also rejected). So like Davis, Revis will be playing in the AFC title game this weekend.

So dumb Idzik went into the year with Milliner MacDougal and Patterson. Milliner, lauded before the 2013 draft for his durability (you could look up the scouting reports), was IR'd. Milner was on Casserly's mock as a first round pick by the way. MacDougal, who had missed a year of college with a shoulder injury, blew out his knee and was also IR'd. And Patterson, who had injury problems but was otherwise sound, decided he would go AWOL. I guess he did not want to play football anymore.

Now I know that doesn't fit your theory of what went on. I know you want to find something that meshes with your belief that Idzik was dumb. We all do that to some extent. But it is the truth.
