These are rumblings/rumors of what has been speculated by the Jets for draft day:
4/16: The Jets are leaning toward a tackle at No. 11.
4/16: The Jets have been eyeing Henry Ruggs "very closely."
4/3: The Falcons and Jets have discussed an NFL Draft trade involving the No. 11 pick.
3/6: There is speculation that the Jets could take Henry Ruggs with their first-round pick.
2/3: The Jets' early inclination is to go offensive tackle or corner at No. 11
Jets’ 1st-round options: Trade back? Wide receiver? Offensive line?
1. Protect Sam Darnold with best offensive tackle on the board
Championships are won in four areas in the NFL: Offensive line, defensive line, quarterback and coach. They aren’t won with star wide receivers. Douglas knows this from his time in Baltimore and Philadelphia. Protect Sam Darnold and wins will commence.
2. Draft Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb
If the right tackle isn’t there, Lamb stands out as the weapon of choice for Douglas to land for Darnold to throw the ball to eight-to-10 times per game.
3. Trade down
This feels like the prudent Douglas play. A star-hungry team (Broncos? Eagles? Falcons?) will want to move up. The Jets can move down, acquire extra picks and have more mobility to move up in later rounds.
4. Draft Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy
For the first time all draft season, concern has emerged about Jeudy. With rumors circulating about a knee issue, this wouldn’t be a slam-dunk move at No. 11. But we’re talking about a smooth route runner with Michael Thomas-ish skills.
5. Trade down, draft impact edge pass rusher
Why not? The Jets could probably pick up an extra second-rounder and still end up with an edge rusher like LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson, filling an area of true need on the defense.
