Michael Young Jr. Scouting ReportMichael Young Jr. a playmaker with high football acumen. He is explosive off the snap and wins with pure deep threat speed to create separation. At his time at Notre Dame, to this past year at Cincinnati (as Graduate studen). His burst is effortless, which tends to catch coverage off guard when he really hits the vertical gas. Young Jr. is well built lower body strength. He plays with smooth, subtle movement. He has supreme ball tracking skill set. He has big play speed to the house on slants and over routes. He plays instinctive body positioning on contested catches. His competitive nature and play strength simply act as multipliers for his outstanding ball skills.

Areas for ImprovementMichael doesn't have the elite short area foot quickness from his release and out of his route breaks. He can work on his route tree to help diverse himself from being that one trick pony deep threat. He plays upright target who can be too easy to disrupt by press. He relies upon athletici gifts and can be nonchalant with routes. He doesn't create enough cornerback tilt out of stems and turns. He is slow gathering and opening on comebacks and zone beaters. His blocking could stand to improve.

Michael Young Jr. Career at Notre Dame/CincinnatiOriginally led Destrehan to an 11-1 record as a senior in 2016. He helped Destrehan reach the 2016 Louisian HS Athletic Association 5A State semifinals. He played for coach Stephen Robicheaux at Destrehan. As a true freshman at Notre Dame, he had seven catches for 138 yards in 13 games. Following year he totaled six catches for 21 yards in three games. Both years he also spent time as a kick returner total 12 kicks for 257 yards averaging 21.4 yards per return with a long of 48. He earned his degree from the college of arts and letters at UND in May 2020. Michael Young Jr. was a grad transfer wideout from Notre Dame joined the Bearcats of Cincinnati prior to the 2020 season. He finished as UC's leading receiver with 29 catches for 332 yards and three touchdowns. Was named Second Team All AAC selection started in 10 games for the AAC Champions during his first season with the Bearcats. Following year he continued to produce at a high clip, as the Bearcats finished the season with a 13-0 record. He registered 24 catches for 298 yards and two touchdowns. Season far from over...

While earning a graduate degree in sports administration at the University of Cincinnati, Young Jr. leads the wide receiver's room of the No. 8 undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats football team. Denbrock recruited Young to Notre Dame when Denbrock was the associate head coach and wide receivers coach for the Fighting Irish. Denbrock jumped at the opportunity to bring Young to Cincinnati when Young entered the NCAA transfer portal in 2020. Young Jr. assured that another road win would be short-lived and that he and his teammates like to keep most moments small. With a constant and contagious smile, the humbled "home-body" in Michael Young Jr. can be seen representing a quick jersey number eight on the field. Young Jr. admits that he still gets to play football at the end of the day, which is why he is at peace with everything and able to keep moments small. |
