Evan Neal NFL Draft Profile
|
Evan Neal Scouting ReportEvan Neal is a massive tackle with the height and size that can not be taught. He has raw power and natural strength to overwhelm defenders in tight quarters. He dominates in the run game and is labeled as the best run blocker in the nation. He has above average awareness for his limited experience. He sells trap blocks and can turn to seal. Evan is fluid getting to and adjust at the second level. His foot speed and quickness are very good, but not elite. He is a big athlete with good bulk and a filled out frame. He stays balanced and does not overextend in pass protection. He stays disciplined with good bend and leverage.

Areas for ImprovementNeal needs to work on his technique in pass protection. He needs to use more consistent leverage and continuing to move his feet. His height can be a detriment in short yardage. His height allows defenders to get under his pads to hold the line. He stops his feet after initial contact. Neal relies on length but allowing the defender to get the corner or spin inside. He can be susceptible to speed rushers. He does not have elite quickness off the snap. He does not possess the acceleration to corral defenders once they cross his face. He is brilliant in the running game just good as a pass blocker. Neal has an occasional problem lunging.

Evan Neal Career at AlabamaAs a freshman at Alabama, Neal started all 13 games a left guard and did not give up a single sack. As a sophomore he moved to right tackle and Alabama would once again have a great offensive line. According to Anthony Treash of PFF “with the help of his brute strength, length and decent athleticism given his size, Neal recorded an 83.7 PFF grade in 2020, ranking fourth in the Power Five. He laid down a whopping 12 big-time blocks in the run game, which was the second-most in a single season by a right tackle in the seven years since PFF began grading college football. Evan was one of the nation's top offensive line prospects who has lived up to the expectations from day one. He was a dominant presence at the left tackle for the Crimson Tide. He was selected as one of Alabama's permanent team team captains for the 2021 campaign. He started 14 games at left tackle in 2021.

Evan Neal NFL Draft Player ProfileNeal is the consensus #1 tackle in the 2022 NFL Draft and is viewed as an almost can't miss prospect by most scouts. We aren't quite so high on him due to him needing work in pass protection - a skill that is now the first and foremost requirement in the NFL.
