Chasen Hines Scouting Report

Chasen is quick setting up after the snap. He slides well to the outside, staying patient and balanced. He has the agility, technique and size to contribute early in his professional career. He has quick, active hands to latch on to defenders. He has the ability to sink his hips and generate real power with his grip strength. He consistently moves defenders back with sheer power. Hines has the willingness to attack and punches multiple times to finish the play. He is quick to pick up edge blitz and shows no panic. He easily adjusts angles and resets his feet quickly. He can recover and reset his anchor with smooth motion. He rarely late off the snap.

Areas for Improvement

Hines can overstep his kick slide, allowing too wide of a land back inside for pass rushers to redirect. He has more power than quickness, struggles to redirect and hit the movin target. He lunges too often, leading to flailing missed blocks. He is a finesse blocker with average arm length who doesn't use his hands well to win at the point of attack. He flashes the ability to move his assignment but needs to be more consistent in this area. He is heavy footed and lacks elite lateral agility. He will struggle with speed rushers and footwork is a work in progress. Bends too much at the waist and overextends himself, often caught leaning. He loses the leverage battles and plays with high pad level.

Chasen Hines Career at Louisiana State

Chasen Hines NFL Draft Player Profile

Big and squatty guard who can create a push in short-yardage situations and open lanes when down blocking. Hines possesses very good leg drive to move opponents off the ball after getting underneath them. He is a nasty finisher, looking to put defenders on the ground. Moving with surprising step frequency and agility at the second level, Hines locates linebackers successfully. His feet in pass protection are low and active and he maintains a wide base to anchor down. He shows lateral movement skills and pre-snap recognition to pick up stunts. Hines deals out body blows to blitzing and stunting opponents.
