Abram Smith Scouting Report

Abram is slightly below average straight-line speed, but has excellent quickness and agility. He uses his field vision as field speed and makes up for any lack of speed against the defense. He has good changes direction almost instantly. He is better at changing direction in small increments than he is at cutting back.

Smith is a strong runner. He keeps his legs churning even while in a pile. He offers some brute strength. Abram is fearless out of the backfield. He really puts his shoulder down well to pick up an extra yard or two. He can drag defenders. Smith accelerates and hits his top speed rather quickly. He is very explosive. He hits the hole with such explosion that he cuts through traffic with his strength. Abram reads his blocks well. He is much more of a north/south runner than a stretch/boundary runner.

Abram is among the best in the country at understanding defenders and manipulating their pursuit with his movement. Excellent contact balance. Bounces off of contact very well. He is very strong in pass protection. Very quick and picks up his assignments very well.

Areas for Improvement

Price shows good hands in warmups, but struggles to be consistent throughout the game. He struggles to secure the catch through contact. He does not offer much ability out wide. He is not a great blocker despite his size. He sets quickly and positions but loses his leverage quickly.

Abram Smith Career at School

Abram Smith popped in the 2021 season after moving full-time to the running back position from the linebacker position. He was a fun piece to study in the Baylor offense in 2021, utilized as a halfback and even, at times, as a fullback. His natural running ability is evident, a product of the 5000+ yards he gained at Abilene High. Coaches say that “nobody messes with Abram” in the locker room and that with his leadership, he held teammates accountable.

Abram Smith NFL Draft Player Profile

Abram Smith projects as a rotational first/second down back who can bring the power to special teams coverage as well. His north/south running style is a little bit less utilized than most, but he shows the ability to hold up in pass protection and with his uncanny ability to find space as a runner, he could be a steal in that range.
