Isaiah Weston Scouting Report

Isaiah is a physical player able to get off press coverage to release up the sideline or position himself inside the cornerback on slants and crossing routes. He is balanced, savvy route runner with top field awareness, setting up and selling routes beautifully. Has enough upper-body strength and tenacity to be very effective as a downfield blocker. Is not shy about taking on his man, provides some pop and will open a running lane for his back at the next level.

Weston has the strong hands any NFL wide receiver coach and quarterback would covet. Tracks the deep ball over either shoulder and brings in passes fluidly without breaking stride downfield. He often used on deep routes, getting separation down the sideline or over the middle on crossing routes by extending his arms rather than pure speed.

Areas for Improvement

Weston is not explosive coming out of his breaks. He does not own elite speed. Freezes at times when trying to juke defenders in space. Walls off his man as a blocker, allowing them to shed and make the play outside. A straight-line athlete with only average speed, lacking the wheels to run away from anyone at the next level. Struggles separating in tight coverage. He is inconsistent high-pointing passes. Allows too many throws into his body when facing the quarterback. He does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest.

Isaiah Weston Career at School

Isaiah lettered in football at St. Michael-Albertville High School for Jared Essler. He was a two-time all-conference selection and was named the Most Valuable Wide Receiver for the Blue Division. Weston was named District MVP and also selected to the all-state team as a receiver. He was named to the Vikings All-State team and led his team to a 12-1 season, winning the conference, section and state championships. He also lettered in basketball and track. In 2016, he redshirted his true freshman campaign.

Isaiah played in all 13 games for UNI, starting five times at wideout and he caught 22 passes for 380 yards and five touchdowns on the year. He ranked second on the team with five touchdowns. In 2018, he missed the entire season with an injury. Following year coming off of an injury he started and played in all 12 games. He led the team with 1,053 total yards received (10th all-time in UNI history.). He grabbed 10 touchdowns this season and tied the UNI record for consecutive games with a touchdown with seven.

In spring of 2021, he played and started in three games. He recorded seven receptions for 152 yards and a touchdown. He took the first play of the game 75 yards for a touchdown against Western Illinois. In 2021, he earned Phil Steele FCS all-MVFC Second Team Offense and special teams honors and named to MVFC All-Conference Second Team Offense, also earning all-purpose honors. He was invited to play in two post-season senior bowl games, including the Hula Bowl in Orlando, Florida, and the NFLPA Bowl in Pasadena, California. Started in all twelve games and put up 37 receptions, 883 yards, and 5 TD's.

Isaiah Weston NFL Draft Player Profile

Isaiah has great blend of skills for a receiver of his size, standing at 6'4" Weston flashes the ability to beat press coverage using his feet as a serious weapon. He will leverage the respect defenses give his deep prowess to open up the underneath game - selling outside-releasing go routes to open up space for hitches and use a subtle push-off at the break to separate. When the ball is in the air, his body control is fascinating to watch as he can contort his long frame to snag errant throws above, in front and behind him. He gets to top speed with smooth acceleration and has breakaway vertical top end speed.
