Peyton Hendershot Scouting Report

Peyton quickly secures and protects the ball. He tracks the ball well and adjusts to off target throws. He has extremely good, soft, natural hands. He is consistent making the clean catch. He has above average acceleration for a big man. He has enough speed to challenge the seam. He has good short area foot quickness with very good footwork.

Peyton catches well in traffic. He shields the ball from defenders with his frame. He hols on despite being hit. He will fully extend, snatch and stay in bounds.

Areas for Improvement

Hendershot is a glider, moves faster than he appears but lacks the top end speed to be a real threat down the seam. He has a high cut frame and limited power in his hands to prevent a top blocking grade. He struggles tracking the ball over his shoulder. He has a narrow base and uninspiring functional strength to hold up at the point of attack.

Peyton Hendershot Career at School

Peyton Hendershot is a John Mackey Award preseason watch list and 2021 team captain. He is two-time All-Big Ten selection (third team, 2019 & 2020) and the 22nd Hoosier to reach 100 catches and 1,000 yards receiving in a career. He was first tight end in program history with multiple 100-yard receiving games in a career, with both coming in 2021 and sits No. 17 on the career receptions (130) charts. He was No. 27 on the all-time yards receiving list (1,428), which is eight yards shy of Terrance Turner (1,436; 2007-10) for the No. 25 spot.

Peyton owns program record for career receptions by a tight end (130), moving past Ted Bolser with a second-quarter reception against Ohio State (10/23/21). He is the third IU tight end to amass 100 career receptions, joining Bolser (117; 2010-13) and Bob Stephenson (115; 1978-81). Indiana's career leaders in receiving yards by a tight end (1,436). He is the fourth tight end in IU history to amass 1,000 career receiving yards, joining Bolser (1,337), Stephenson (1,252) and Dave Lilja (1,045; 1984-86). He ranks No. 2 on Indiana's tight ends career list with 14 touchdowns, behind only Bolser (15; 2010-13). Hendershot was the single season leader in tight end receptions (52; 2019) and receiving yardage (622; 2019) at Indiana. Peyton earned liberal studies degree from Indiana in May 2021.

Peyton Hendershot NFL Draft Player Profile

A smooth tight end that is tough to bring down, Hendershot has the feet and hands wanted from top Prospects but off-the-field concerns and limitations in blocking may cause him to be a day three pick or later.
