Devontay Love-Taylor Scouting Report

Devontay's best asset is his strength and disposition as a run blocker. He gives a strong initial punch. He plays with good leverage bends at the knees. He shows the ability to roll his hips into the defender and drive him off the line of scrimmage. He has above average footbal smarts and general intelligence. He plays with a nasty streak. He has good character and work ethic.

He is fluid getting to and adjust at the second level. He is big athlete with good bulk and a filled out frame. He stays balanced and does not overextend in pass protection. He stays disciplined with good bend and leverage.

Areas for Improvement

Love-Taylor attacks when necessary, though he won't consistently dominate and can lose balance overextending. He flashes the ability to move his man with his hands, but is not yet consistent in this area. He is a short area blocker with limited range and does not consistently get to the second level. He will play undisciplined at times, especially in space. He lacks a finishing attitude.

Love-Taylor will punch at smaller defenders instead of latching on. He has very raw technique, playing with inconsistent hand placement fails to sustain blocks. He will pop upright off the snap and needs to stay balanced to avoid the habit of lunging. He bends at the waist and loses leverage at times. He also has a tendency to lunge and lean too far when flustered. He is not an elite quick twitch blocker and he is out quicked by quicker defenders.
