Josh Sills Scouting Report

Josh's best asset is his strength and dispositon as a run blocker. He gives a strong initial punch. He plays with good leverage bends at the knees and sees what he is hitting, showing the ability to roll his hips into the defender. He drives the defender off the line of scrimmage. He has above average football smarts and general intelligence. He plays with a nasty streak.

Josh's height, length and athletic build are prototypical for the position that helps protect the blind side of ultra-important starting quarterbacks. His awareness is above-average for his limited experience. Sells trap block and can turn to seal. Fluid getting to and adjust at the second level. He is big athlete with good bulk and a filled-out frame. Stays balanced and doesn't overextend in pass protection. Stays disciplined with good bend and leverage.

Areas for Improvement

Sills isn't an elite quick twitch blocker. His heigh causes him to be out quicked. He leaks inside pressure when his technique gets sloppy. He needs to prove his worth in a straight ahead running game. He attacks when necessary, though he won't consistently dominate and can lose balance overextending.

Sills is heavy footed and lacks elite lateral ability. He will struggle with speed rushers and footwork is a work in progress. He bends too much at the waist and overextends himself, often caught lunging and leaning. He is susceptible to speed rushers. He has only qverage quickness off the snap. He does not possess the acceleration or arm length to corral defenders once they cross his face.

Josh Sills Career at School

Sills a graduate transfer offensive lineman who spent the first four years of his career at West Virginia. He started for more than two seasons and earned all-conference honors in 2018. He played in 27 career games and started 24 times at WVU, then started every game in 2020 during his first year as a Cowboy.

Josh Sills NFL Draft Player Profile

Strange has the frame, athletic ability, play strength and competitive toughness to be considered a high-level backup at multiple positions across the line, with starter potential over his first few seasons at guard. He will need refinement to handle himself in isolated situations as a pass protector in the NFL and to learn how to more efficiently win back leverage as a run-blocker, but he has shown that he can dominate FCS competition, and his power and tenacity translated against a major bump up in competition against Kentucky. His performance at the Senior Bowl will be especially important to his evaluation and projection to the NFL.
