Zach Tom Scouting Report

Zach has quick feet to get inside of defensive tackles to wall off inside and reach linebackers at the second level. He is quick and nimble, light on his feet. Very athletic blocker on the move. Good slide and hand placement effectively shut down most speed rushers. Tom is willing to attack and punches multiple times to finish the play. Quick to pick up edge blitz and shows no panic, easily adjusting angles and resetting his feet. Can recover and reset his anchor. Rarely late off the snap.

Zach is infinitely coachable and athletically gifted with the ideal frame, physique, weight distribution, knee bend and hand strength to be molded into a special blocker. Has fluid body control with loose hips. Physical and tough with good effort in the run game. Plays with a finishing attitude with an aggressive, nasty temperament.

Areas for Improvement

Tom has only average measurable with limited arm length and no overpowering qualities. Stronger pass rushers can get under his pads and steer him aside. Can be beat off the edge coming out of his stance lunging to reach speedy wide rushers. Limits ability to mirror by leaning forward with his upper body and neglecting his lower body. Not strong enough and remains rough around the edges. Too often is pushed back into the pocket during pass protection becaus~ he bends at the waist rather than at the knees. Relies more on precise angles than physicality in the running game.

He does a great job using angles, position, and sound techniques to open running lanes or protect his quarterback’s blindside. Tom has the tools to be a solid backup interior lineman in the NFL.
