Grattan has average balance. His pass set is sufficient and fluid. He plays with a level of nastiness and finish. He also competes hard when he is bull rushed and when he has to recover when a defender has shot the gap. He has a high-level football IQ. He easily recognizes twists and stunts inside. This helped him play center and guard throughout his career. He has played guard and center throughout his career. He also shows the football IQ to play both positions if required.

Areas for Improvement

Grattan doesn't bend well and lacks good flexibility. He has been on the ground some, as well. He lacks good athleticism and struggles to redirect laterally. He has shorter arms and it hinders him in the passing game. He's an average athlete, which makes him struggle to redirect laterally. He also struggles to get to backside cut-off in the run game. He has marginal length. This is evident in his punch while in his pass set. He can also get overwhelmed by bull rushers as a result. His hand placement was really inconsistent. He lacks elite punch but shows good latch strength in his hands.

Grattan earned first-team 4A All-State honors his senior year at Mt. Lebanon HS. He was named to the PA Preps Golden 33 Team and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review Terrific 25 squad and earned first-team all-conference honors also was a three-year letterwinner. In his first season at Villanova did not see game action. He started all 11 games at guard in 2017.

In 2018, Paul started all 10 games at center. Still at Villanova in 2019, he started 12 of 13 games at left guard. He earned first team All CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) honors. His offensive unit ranked among the nation's best in the FCS in several categories. {7th: 3rd down conversions (.494), 10th: sacks allowed (1.08), 13th: first downs (293), 14th: total offense (454.8), 27th: rushing offense (194.1). earned a spot on the 2020 Commissioner's Honor Roll.}

In 2020, he saw action in all 7 games as a starter at left guard. UCLA produced a rushing average of 230.6 yards per game which ranked second in the Pac-12. it was just the fourth time since 1990 that a Bruin team had achieved the 200 yards per game milestone for a season. the last time a Bruin team averaged more than the average per rush mark of 5.1 yards was in 1976. opponent sacks dropped by over one per contest from the previous season to 1.7 per game.

In 2021, he was the starter in all 12 games at offensive guard. helped pave the way for the Bruins to average over 200 yards per game on the ground for the second straight season (215.1) and produce a 1,000-yard rusher in Zach Charbonnet (1,137). first time since 1987-86-85 seasons that UCLA has achieved consecutive 200-plus yard rushing seasons. Paul Grattan is a sixth-year senior guard. He is a sufficient-level athlete with marginal agility and body control. In the run game, he struggles to get vertical movement. He lacks elite in-line power but shows some nastiness and finish to his game.

He has moments of getting overwhelmed at the point of attack. In the passing game, he struggles with quicker, more agile defenders. He has good anticipatory skills inside and plays with good vision in his pass set. He struggles to move laterally and engaging in space on screens exposes his lack of good athleticism. He does have some redeeming value in his demonstrated ability to also play center, but will likely struggle to roster in the NFL.
