Alex Mollette Scouting Report

Mollette is a two-year starter who saw action at both guard positions and has experience at both guard and tackle. Quickly sets up off the snap, jolts opponents with terrific hand punch, and shows explosiveness at the point. Stays square, keeps his head on a swivel, and works well with linemates. Gets after opponents, plays with a nasty attitude, and fights through the whistle.

Areas for Improvement

Mollette does not sink his butt at the line of scrimmage and does not block with proper pad level. Stiff and struggles to adjust.

Alex Mollette committed on June 26. Had offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Ball State, Bucknell, Buffalo, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Elon, Florida Atlantic, Fordham, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Liberty, Louisiana Monroe, Middle Tennessee State, Presbyterian, Robert Morris, San Diego State, Toledo, Troy, Tulane, Western Kentucky and William & Mary. Helped North Gwinnett (8-3) throw for 3,425 yards and 39 touchdowns and run for 1,368 yards and 17 scores en route to the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs. Runs the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds. Bench presses 385 pounds and squats 485 pounds. Rated a two-star prospect by Rivals.com, 247Sports.com and Scout.com.

In 2016, Alex redshirted. Named to the 2016-17 C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.0 or greater GPA). As a redshirt freshman, he saw action in 12 games, primarily at right guard. Started six games, including the final five of the season. Started five games at right guard and one at left guard. One of three freshmen featured on an offensive line that generated 4,938 yards and an average of 5.50 yards per play. Offensive line ranked fourth nationally in sacks allowed with 11 in 13 games (0.85 per game). Played 740 snaps without allowing a sack.

In 2018, he made four consecutive starts at right guard before an injury ended second collegiate season. Had started nine consecutive games in career prior to injury. Alex's redshirt junior campaign, he played and started all 13 games at left guard, blocking for a running game that finished second in Conference USA in rushing yards and rushing yards per game. Started the Gasparilla Bowl against nationally ranked UCF.

In 2020, Alex a respected leader along the offensive line. Started all 10 games. Has started 23 consecutive games. Earned a spot on the Conference USA all-conference second team on the offensive line. Paved the way for a running game that ranked No. 4 in C-USA in rushing yards and produced first team all-conference running back Brenden Knox. According to Pro Football Focus, was the only offensive lineman who played 400-plus snaps without allowing a pressure during the 2020 season. According to Pro Football Focus, Marshall’s offensive line had the fourth-highest grade of any team in 2020 entering bowl season.
