He is an efficient in his movements. He can get in and out of short area operation. He has good quickness in his hands. He possesses stutter step to arm over rush move. He has early acceleration in closing burst.

Areas for Improvement

Lack of mass is a factor inside. He is scheme dependent. He is unable to maintain gap against power. He gets washed away if he doesn't win in early stages. He lacks urgency to fight back across blocker's face. He tends to be on and done pass rusher when punched. He is too gradual working to blocker's edge as rusher.

Derrick Tangelo NFL Draft Player Profile

Built low to the ground and plays with excellent leverage and pad level that allows him to seep into gaps and create disturbances. Tangelo's problem will be his lack of size and functional anchor. Finding a slanting, upfield front is a must, but he'll need to play with better burst off the snap and more consistent hands to try and keep himself clean. His inability to defeat man-on-man engagement may be an indicator of the issues he would have as a pro.
