DaMarcus Mitchell Scouting Report

DaMarcus played the Leo role in the Boilermakers defense a hybrid defensive end/linebacker. He has decent twitch with range and lateral movement from standing up over the tackle. He also played opposite defensive stalwart George Karlaftis at the other end position using his explosivness off the snap.

Mitchell was good in run support and is a good open field tackler. He is above average in pursuit angles to the ball carrier. He is a total athletic mismatch for offensive lineman with high end explosiveness and raw power to expose inexperienced linemen.

Areas for Improvement

Mitchell relies on physical traits and he will be unable to do at the next level. He played opposite likely a top 15 selection in George Karlaftis, so rarely he had to put up with double teams. He will need to improve his hand usage where he sometimes looks undisciplined.

DaMarcus Mitchell Career at School

As a freshman at Southwest Mississippi Community College, Mitchell carried the ball 12 times for 57 yards and had 6 receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. Following year he had 71 tackles, 30 solo with 1.5 sacks as a sophomore in 2019. He was consensus three star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals.

In 2020, transferred to Purdue where he appeared in all six games, making five starts. He finished third on the team with 34 tackles, 22 solo. He tallied 6.0 tackles for loss including one sack. Mitchell played a big role on a much-improved Purdue defense in 2021, leading the Boilermakers to a 9-4 season. The defensive end racked up 25 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 pass break-ups and 2 forced fumbles.

DaMarcus Mitchell NFL Draft Player Profile

A surprise in 2020 was DeMarcus Mitchell, he played all over in the 3-4 scheme. This year, look for him to be on the opposite side of George Karlaftis. With so much attention to George, Mitchell should be set up with many 1 on 1 match ups. He is very quick for his size and very strong. Look for a solid senior season for the former Junior College Recruit.
