Baylon Spector Scouting ReportBaylon Spector plays fast, flows with the action. He shows smooth lateral agility and short area burst. He has good instincts and awareness to quickly find the ball. He has good ability to key and diagnose skills. He quickly locates the ball and shwows no wasted motion in getting home. Baylon has adequate lateral agility to avoid blockers and shows good vision with anticipation. He is an intelligent player who can play "MIKE" linebacker despite his lack of size. Because of his instincts and ability to find the ball through traffic he shows that downhill ability to stuff gaps to plug against the run. He is quick to read run, and shows good agility and speed to get past blockers and finish. He is experienced in coverage and gets a strong jam on outside receivers. He reads the quarterback to anticipate and is a candidate to play outside.

He needs to improve his tackling technique. He gets caught with his eyes in the backfield at times. Occasionally overruns plays due to aggressive nature. He hesitates when facing running back blocks while rushing the passer.

Baylon Spector Career at ClemsonBaylon played all over the field, including linebacker and quarterback for Calhoun HS in Georgia. He was first team all state at the AAA level in 2016 by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He helped Calhoun Hight to an 11-3 record and to the second round of the state playoffs. His first year at Clemson, he redshirted enrolling in January. In 2018, he was credited with eight tackles, one for loss. He also had a forced fumble and recovered a fumble in 62 snaps in 15 games. Moving forward, he registered 45 tackles, six for loss and two sacks. He also had a pass breakup and fumble recovery in 284 snaps over 15 games in his redshirted sophomore season. He deflected a pass that was intercepted by Tanner Muse, as well as a fumble recovery on special teams vs. Georgia Tech that helped him share team special teams player of game honors. Enter 2020, he was Second team All ACC honoree by the AP. Also All ACC Academic Team Selection. He was credited with a team high 72 tackles, and 10.5 for loss. He had a team high 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles with a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in 517 snaps over 12 games. He started 11 games. In 2021, he notched 74 tackles, in which 36 were solo. He also registered 2.5 sacks and one pass deflection. Spector registered his first career interception. |
Baylon Spector NFL Draft Player ProfileSpector is very fast and reacts very quickly. He is the fastest player in this defense. He tends to rely on his speed too much and will over-commit when taking angles or setting zones. He has excellent athletic ability but doesn’t control it as well as you’d like to see. Baylon's footwork and movement in general is raw and clumsy. He flashes the ability to use brute power to get off of blocks and make the tackle. When he gets in position, Spector is an excellent tackler. He is very intense football player. His pursuit angles aren’t great. He sometimes relies too much on his speed and tries to undercut the play. He works well through traffic to stay with a run, especially when moving to the boundary on a stretch. Baylon shows good timing and understanding of how to get into the backfield through a pass protection set. Spector doesn’t have great pass-rushing ability, struggles to shed blocks. He does bring speed and can outrun linemen with a good release. Spector tends to be too aggressive when setting in his zone and will abandon his post if he thinks there isn’t someone there. Spector generally recognizes the play concept and moves to position himself against it. He will catch on sometimes, but tends to be too aggressive. He doesn’t always feel the play well, seems to be missing some feel for the play. |
