He helped Chargers to a 9-3 record and a South Jersey Group IV state title and recorded 74 tackles, including 53 solo stops, to go along with two interceptions and a sack as a senior. He was First-Team National Division (Camden County) and Second Team All-Group IV on defense by the Star-Ledger. Tyreek played in 11 games with six starts as a strong side linebacker as a true freshman at Rutgers. He was named to the Big Ten All Freshman Team by ESPN.com. He totaled 47 tackles with 1.5 for loss, one pass breakup and a blocked punt. Suffered an injury in summer camp his sophomore year and did not see action in any games that year. He was named to the Academic All Big Ten list (12/6). As a junior, Tyreek started in all 12 games at strong side linebacker. He was named to the Academic All Big Ten List (12/5). He may be too "feast or famine" to find early playing time, but he has a tough work ethic and brings to the table an unsationable thirst of learning. He might need to play WILL linebacker, where he has the freedom to react and chase rather than being forcced to process as much. He continues to learn and polish his skills and should step into a role as a special teams ace.
