Martin Emerson Scouting Report

Martin has nice athletic with ideal length and size to dominate smaller receivers. He is willing and successful blitzing off the edge. He could translate to safety with his combination of range and sure tackling. He is a good man/press defender who is very aggressive and able to handle bigger tight ends over the middle.

Martin is a tough and scrappy with forceful nature to be physical at all levels fo the field. He has good bulk on his fram to be aggressive in run support. He is a big hitter and a very good tackler who rarely misses and generall takes good angles to the ball.

Martin has strong hands to make plays on the ball. He is an effective blitzer who shows well coached technique and awareness. He has the versatility to play both as a corner and at safety. He was recruited as such coming out of high school. He trusts his eyes with very good awareness. He has very good reaction skills to break quickly on the ball.

Areas for Improvement

Martin needs to improve his footwork and balance in coverage. He transitions out of his backpedal too early and does not always look natural moving in reverse. He lacks elite speed to recover if beaten on double moves. He ducks his head and swipes too often on open field tackles.

Martin looks to us like his ideal position is safety as he is not instinctive as a cone corner and can take too many risks in man cover to be a lockdown corner. He has questionable technique and he gets lazy with fundamentals. He sometimes gets high in his backpedal and will breach the coverage call seeking flashy plays.

Martin is a bit handsy and too aggressive. He will likely see a lot pass interference calls at the next level. He has high backpedal and loses a step in transition. He plays with adequate speed but there are concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters in the NFL.
