He can deliver the big hit and isn't afraid to jump inside to slow the ball. Has good strength to tackle. Plays with high energy and is a tough-minded overachiever. He competes for the ball and has good anticipation skills and hand-eye coordination. Has good instincts and anticipation reads and reacts with discipline. Dangerous with the ball in his hands. He is quicker than he is fast but has a burst to close in zone coverage and plays physical at the line in man. Areas for ImprovementInconsistent getting off of blocks. He can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression. Has tense ankles and hips with choppy footwork when attempting to redirect and doesn't always look natural changing directions. Needs to tighten his angles in pursuit. Needs to show better tackling technique to consistently finish. |

Delarrin Turner-Yell NFL Draft Player ProfileTurner-Yell’s processing skills are noticeable on tape, as he is always in the right place at the right time, especially in the run game. His shoulders and hips line up on a slender frame. Despite his skinny frame, he shows he has the strength and physicality needed to play the safety position. He’s willing to come up and make a play at the line of scrimmage utilizing his solid play recognition skills. Turner-Yell has a knack for recognizing route concepts which is one of his most substantial assets as a prospect. His tackling technique is something out of a clinic, as he is great at wrapping up and waiting for reinforcements with more prominent ball carriers. He comes flying up to the line of scrimmage on run plays, looking to make a tackle which shows he is engaged and alert in all play scenarios. |
