Alex Forsyth Scouting Report

Alex is fundamentally sound and understands blocking angles. He uses body positioning to his advantage. He has disciplined awareness and excellent intelligence. He has above average for his limited experience. He sells trap block and turn to seal.

Alex is a better than expected athlete who steadily improved his pass protection. He is stout at the point of attack and maintains a wide base. He has quick feet to get inside of defensive tackles to wall off inside and reach linebackers at the second level. He finds defenders with his hands immediately and gets feet moving to engage and sustain.

Areas for Improvement

Forsyth is susceptible to speed rushers. He has only average quickness off the snap. He does not possess the acceleration or arm length to corral defenders once they cross his face. He attacks when necessary, though he won't conistently dominate adn can lose balance overextending. He loses leverage battles and plays with a high pad level.

Forsyth can be late off the snap. He can be beat off the edge coming out of his stance lunging to reach speedy wide rushers. He is not an elite quick twitch blocker. His weight causes him to be out quicked. He leaks inside pressure when his technique gets sloppy.

Alex Forsyth Career at School

Alex Forsyth was a four star prospect by ESPN and Rivals. He helped lead West Linn to an Oregon 6A state title and an undefeated season. A key contributor to West Linn offense that averaged 5.7.7 yards per game. He opened holes for a West Linn ground attack that averaged 203.1 yards per game. Enrolled at Oregon in 2017, utilizing a redshirt his true fresman campaign.

Alex played in five games his redshirt freshman season. He saw time at three different positions (LG, RG, RT), playing a total of 44 snaps. In 2019, he saw time in five games at three different position (LG, RG, RT). He played a total of 47 snaps and he had a pair of knockdowns.

Forsyth's junior year he started all seven games at center for Oregon during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He led the team with 440 total offensive snaps allowing one sack and four total pressures on 231 pass blocking downs. He finished as PFF's second highest graded center in the Pac 12 and 17th in the nation at 74.2, Oregon's second best overall offensive grade.

Stepping into a starting role with minimal experience playing time during a global pandemic is no easy feat. That said, Alex Forsyth started for the Oregon Ducks at center in 2020 after only playing sparingly at both guard spots and right tackle earlier in his career. Still, the West Linn native passed for a seasoned veteran on the field.

Forsyth’s game is predicated on his technique. The inexperienced center maintains a wide base throughout engagement. He also consistently practices accurate hand placement. This refined skillset allows the Oregon standout to manufacture power.

Forsyth consistently plays with proper weight discipline and keeps his feet and hands in sync. Consequently, he avoids whiffing. The former three-star recruit also distinguishes himself with his impressive movement skills. Forsyth routinely mirrors defenders with natural lateral agility. He has the hips to hinge and engage defenders at the line or in space. What’s more, he reliably gets to the second level or the open field.

Forsyth can also pull and climb in the run game. He also has notable grip strength to sustain blocks as he mirrors. Should he be pushed back, the Oregon center is coordinated enough to reset his base and drop a late anchor. Additionally, Forsyth plays with an excellent motor and even lead blocks downfield on big plays. Once engaged, he consistently churns his legs in an attempt to drive defenders back. Finally, Forsyth exhibits patience, gap integrity and awareness in pass protection and as a run blocker.
