Amaro, Milliner, Smith and other reclamation projects

Each year brings renewed optimism, be it additions through the draft and free agency or guys coming back from injury. I know it is only May 25th and the 2nd day of OTAs, but it was good to hear that Amaro, Dee Milliner and GSmith all had strong days. As far as I'm concerned, if these guys perform anywhere near previous expectations/draft position, the team wins with the added depth and quality play.

New season, new found optimism. If Amaro can get out of the dog house and produce like he was expected to then we will have a prolific offense with lots of weapons. I hope he pans out. He wasn't bad during his rookie year.

I have little to no hope for Milliner but do wish him luck. The injury he is recovering from hasn't been too kind to players in the past.

Hopefully Geno has learned a lot from Fitz. We shall see soon enough.

Most people think Geno will be the odd man out, come cut down day. I would say odds are, it will be Petty, as of today. I don't see us going into the season with 2 backups with zero NFL snaps. Especially with a starter who is often injured

All three of these guys were high draft picks. I'm really hoping at least 2 out of 3 pan out, especially Amaro. Out TE position is putrid.

If Amaro does establish himself this year and becomes a legitimate short to intermediate target for Fitz, how does that change things for Decker or Marshall? The guy is a big target (6'5"+) and has shown as a rookie that he can be a productive (38 catches 2 TDs) underneath guy for a bad team (2014 Jets) with Geno as the QB. Imagine the production with a better scheme and QB.

Surely we could trade Petty for a late draft pick. I know the Cowboys were very high on him during the draft.

Jets healthy and "hungry" Dee Milliner catching eyes of coaches

Dee Milliner isn’t just on the field. . . but on the minds of Jets coaches two days into the team’s organized team activities.

Fully healthy for the first time in quite some time, Milliner is enjoying extra playing time with New York star cornerback Darrelle Revis sidelined with a wrist injury. According to defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers, Milliner is making the most of his additional reps.

“That guy is hungry,” Rodgers said.

Originally a first-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft, Milliner arrived in New York with high expectations surrounding him. After all, shortly before the Jets took Milliner ninth overall, they had traded Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The thought was that Milliner would be Revis’ replacement.

Things just, well, they didn’t go as planned.

Milliner’s rookie year was up-and-down, which saw the cornerback start, get benched, then eventually return to the starting lineup. Entering year two, he proclaimed himself the “best” cornerback in the NFL, but since making that statement, hasn’t been able to back it up.

And that has nothing to do with poor play. Milliner simply hasn’t been on the field. An Achille’s and wrist injury limited the Alabama product to just eight game appearances these last two years. . . of a potential 32.

“Dee is a guy that we really, really expect a lot out of,” Rodgers said. “And so far, so good. The last couple of days, it’s been funny, his name has really been coming up. He’s made a lot of great plays out there in practice.”

arlier this offseason, the Jets elected not to pick up the fifth-year contract option on Milliner, rendering him a free agent following the conclusion of this season. As a result, Milliner has a little extra incentive in 2016 knowing, in a way, he’s playing for his future.

Be that with the Jets, or elsewhere.

Speaking after practice, Jets coach Todd Bowles indicated Revis may be out until training camp, meaning those reps for Milliner aren’t going to diminish much over the next month or so.

It’s just up to Milliner to show that now that his health isn’t keeping him off the field, his play warrants him being on it.

Problem with Milliner is he just can't stay healthy. We'll see if he can actually make it out of training camp this year.

Amaro was solid his rookie season and if he earns playing time he could add so much to the offense, and make our redzone offense just scary. I hope Miliner can stay healthy because we will have a talented young guy playing for his future.
