Another Jet Blunder: Dallas to Hire McCarthy

The real issue is that historically we've had abysmal GMs--the last two cataclysmically bad--who have earned the fan and media's scorn. The myriad busts, awful signings or players we've passed up, players we've allowed to leave, etc. are all why these dopes get blasted.

Cataclysmically!.....guess that's means pretty bad......I haven't heard that word since my last divorce!

The inexperience of both GM's and Head Coaches certainly shows on the field every season.

The last two were awful. Idzik obviously worse than Maccagnan, but both bad. Tanny wasn't bad.

As for the busts and for the players passed up, EVERY team has done this many, many times. The entire league passed on Brady until the 6th round. And there are plenty of busts in the first round for every team.

But Jets failures get highlighted by both Jets fans and the media. Why?

1. Jets fans, like all fans, focus on the world through our lens. So we see our busts, and assume every other team doesn't have them.
2. The national media rips on the Jets because of the "New York" in their name. The local media rips on the Jets because they are not the city's establishment team like the Giants are.

Yes, the Jets have had plenty of failings. But other teams have, too. Yet we continue to act like this is only a Jets thing.

So right....For example, All the News stations show highlights of the Giants game first....it's 100% of the time, then Jets after....Never the other way around.
I know the media does it on purpose as small sign of disrespect towards the Jets.

Yankees are always shown first before the Mets....again, disrespect!

What can I tell you? It's how I feel. The owners/GMs made their (flawed) decisions based on what they thought would benefit the Jets and lead to the Club's success. I don't believe they were very much concerned (or at all) with the successes/failures of other teams. I feel most of these folks live in a bubble of denial and over-inflated estimation of their management skills. With 50+ years of terrible results and team failure, they must live with the consequences, one of which is criticism from media and fans.

You want to see it differently? Great. That's your prerogative.

I don't live in a bubble. Rather, I place it in context.

Maccagnan did a horrible job in building a team from the trenches out. Anyone who knows anything about me knows how much I prioritize the line, especially OL. I loathed Macc's job with that. Now, not every pick was terrible, and it's not fair to say some top players fell into his lap when other teams passed on guys, such as Adams and Darnold. And he brought in a top undrafted FA in Robby Anderson. But his drafts are atrocious, and he left the franchise QB he drafted exposed.

That said, when Jets fans pull the "woe is me" garbage, they neglect the fact that every team has some pretty bad draft busts. Even the Pats are, at best, mediocre drafters. They're great at trades in the draft, but not very good with their picks. The Jets are far from alone, and that is an important point, even if it is ignored.

I agree with you. That's why when the cheetahs get caught cheating and lose a draft pick, it's not a bad thing for them at all because chances are the guy they would have drafted wouldn't have been as good as the guy who they pick up in free agency using the money they saved from the draft pick

Heres the thing though. This organization does the same stupid things over and over.... And over. That's the definition of insanity. If we didn't suck, no one would be complaining. Sure there are other inept teams like us but there are just as many teams that have the playoffs in their sites most every year.

If we ever actually become relevant and the cheetahs fade away like the Burgermeisters, most of the bandwagon new England fans will jump ship and actually jump on the Jet bandwagon. That's my prediction. Sadly I don't think we will find out if I'm right any time soon

One more point on Jets fans. About the only thing we have to talk about is either how bad we stink or how many Superbowl s the other team in our division is winning. If we did anything good ever, that would change. It's all we have right now

I must admit that I wanted the Jets to hire a younger offensive minded HC who I'd hope would grow with Darnold and teach him over his career. I was looking for that Brady-Belicheck type scenario. It's not quite turning out like I hoped. I didn't want the Jets to hire McCarthy because he seemed like a rethread, so I was happy with the Gase hire. I didn't think it would be Gase but was cool with it when they did it. BOY WAS I WRONG ABOUT THAT ONE!
