Antwuan Jackson Scouting Report

Antwuan has a short, stumpy build so he typically wins the leverage battle. When he does so, Chapman can be tough to move, even showing the ability to handle double-teams. He is a strong tackler. Has good power in hands and can anchor, shed, and chase. He played with good leverage, even on the nose, despite average bulk. Hustle defender with a good bull rush inside that can close and get home when quarterbacks leave the pocket.

Jackson lacks the size to compete as a traditional defensive tackle and is a projection to any other position. He played with lean and leverage against the run, tough for one man to move (sometimes double-teams, too).

Areas for Improvement

Antwuan might be limited to one-gap systems. His agility isn't a question but misses tackles when he doesn't square and break down. He only adequate burst off the snap even when directly over the ball, and his initial pop leaves room to be desired. His hands could be much more violent when trying to gain control of the block. Does not hold his ground while facing a double-team; first instinct is to roll away to make a play, which can create a large hole.

Jackson has limited range and is more of a run-stuffer who won't make many plays in the backfield - a mid-round, prospect who should be able to offer depth along the defensive line in any scheme. Isn't able to consistently shed blocks and makes plays in the hole.

Antwuan Jackson Career at School

Antwuan, a graduate student, is a “super senior” in eligibility as he is using the 2020 Covid year to gain a fifth year on the field in 2021. He joins DT Haskell Garrett, CB/WR Demario McCall, OT Thayer Munford, TE Corey Rau, LS Bradley Robinson and CB Marcus Williamson as “super seniors” playing a fifth season. He is in his fourth year with the Buckeyes, having joined the Ohio State football program in January of 2018.

Jackson has played in 26 games for the Buckeyes, including all eight games in 2020 and all 14 in 2019. He has earned first start of his career in the season opener last year vs. Nebraska. He has amassed 25 career tackles and has caused plenty of disruption within the interior lines. He had 11 tackles in 2020, including a quarterback sack vs. Alabama in the CFP championship game. Has registered 4.5 career tackles-for-loss. He posted a career-high four tackles against Rutgers in 2019.

Antwuan Jackson NFL Draft Player Profile

Jackson never put up huge numbers in his Ohio State career. After a redshirt year at Auburn and one year at Blinn College, Jackson recorded 48 total tackles with nine tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in his four years as a Buckeye. But he believes his best football remains in front of him.

Jackson believes he is capable of making a bigger impact as a pass-rusher than he did at Ohio State, in part because of the role he was asked to play for the Buckeyes. While he also spent some time playing the 3-technique position at Ohio State, he spent most of his time with the Buckeyes playing nose tackle, where his primary responsibility was to take on double-teams and hold gaps rather than penetrate into the backfield.

With his Ohio State career now behind him, Jackson has turned his focus toward trying to earn an opportunity to play in the NFL. He hasn’t received an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine or any all-star games, but he is still in Columbus training with an eye toward Ohio State’s pro day, where he hopes to impress scouts enough to be selected in this year’s NFL draft.
