It is unfair to judge any QB after one game but this really isn't his first rodeo, just his first rodeo in this offensive game plan...

from the beginning I stated Bryce Petty needed to command the huddle and he failed miserably... 12 man penalties on offense is inexcusable for any QB, but to be called for multiple times in one game his ridiculous... Someone could of told him to step out of the huddle as they were making substitutions and to count the bodies on the field before entering the huddle to call the play... But he was in the huddle during substitutions and really had no clue that there was too many players on field...

this one problem is not on Petty but if he was better equipped and had knowledge to adjust line blocking calls then maybe on passing plays the right side from Winters to Shell wouldn't be just allowing the D line mainly Cameron Jordan the ability to wait for the wind up and bat the ball down... Understand they went with a simple pass blocking scheme but the o line was not engaging to tie up the d linemen to where they couldn't or had a harder time to jump up and bat the ball down...

the running game did just enough, but all the cute play calling did interrupt any rhythm built up by Petty and the receivers... have no problem bringing in Qvale as an eligible receiver to run block but we should attempted to pass from those formations... and no I don't mean to Qvale...

Austin Seferian Jenkins in back to back games has checked out early in games and looked disinterested to be involved when most needed, again coaching could of yanked him and put in someone who wanted to be involved, again this is no slight to Petty but he could of grabbed ASJ and got in his face to get him back into the thick of things, thats what any good leader would do at the quarterback position...

Too many passes thrown to the shoe laces of receivers mainly RA who is used to high pointing catches... Can not ask everyone to make those type of catches whereas they have to contort their bodies in doing so at full speed...

The good points, Bryce Petty made some good decisions when the play broke down and threw it away... One time when the pass protection broke down and his receivers were covered he had no problem in tucking it and running for a first down... He also had great touch on deep routes, especially that 38 yarder to RB Elijah McGuire... The pass to Chad Hansen was also on rope but have to give credit to Hansen making that catch...

Assessment for the continue growth of Bryce Petty:

Petty needs to hone his footwork in the pocket, so he can establish better accuracy on his throws...
He needs to step into his throws being fearless in doing so...
He needs to continue his ability to run with the rock..
His short accuracy is discouraging but because of his footwork his passes soar awkward...
Pre-snap recognition is average but at this point a work in progress...

If Petty next week, works on his short to intermediate passing routes with Jermaine Kearse, Chad Hansen, and Robby Anderson then allowing them to make the plays not only will he continue to build his confidence but it will allow him to grow further than he is at the moment... Kearse is the main receiver that Petty needs to develop into a better player, while doing so this will open up the big down field plays attempts to Anderson...

Both Powell and Forte are the security blankets, would say ASJ but he has no faith in himself to be that crutch... McGuire is the future and needs to continue his own development and be that home run threat anyway he can...

For me I am intrigued if Petty can take another step not just the next one, he is far from what we need but he has potential...

He sucks and I knew that from last year. I just would like for them to play Hack these last two games to know for a fact that he sucks also. I then can feel better about them drafting a QB in the first round (and they better) without letting Hack play from the beginning of the season for a few games atleast.

I agree and disagree. I agree because it's to late in the season to see what needs to be adjusted and fixed and have him develop. And clearly we will need to draft a QB to appease the media and the fans. So the new guy will. hopefully, get that development from Day 1 next year. I disagree cause the kid has talent and can be salvaged. It just won't be with the Jets.

I said it before so I won't stress the point too much. I don't think Petty is going to be our FQB. He may wind up being a decent back-up though. He has potential but is an extremely slow developer. I am allowing for the fact that this was his first start in awhile and there might be a few nervous bees buzzing around in his head. He has to know that this is possibly his last chance, at least with this team, to prove he has the right stuff. I think that for the most part he remained composed and made good decisions. He did complete a couple of passes that were really nice and showed a willingness to run when the play broke down. The other side of the coin is that his footwork is, I'll be kind here, not very good, and especially, as gmf1369 pointed out, in the pocket. Doesn't show up well passing on the run either. The result was, as we all saw, poor accuracy especially on short passes that just have to have a high completion rate for a team to survive. He took his best receiver, Robbie, effectively out of the equation, by throwing either behind him or at his feet most of the time instead of putting it where he could go up and get it. He seemed to struggle at reading the offense a little as well. These are things that I think can be corrected and more experience under center will help for sure. The big thing for me, and why I have doubts about him as a FQB is his lack of awareness of whats happening on the field around him and his leadership ability. When these guys create penalties or run bad routes, or miss catches they should have caught, aren't working hard, and so forth, I want to see him address that. Also, as already pointed out he should be counting heads before joining the huddle. It will be interesting to see what he shows us next week. Also, in my opinion,if there was a chance that Hack was better than him, I believe that they would have started him instead. On a good note, the defense played well in my opinion.
