Blaise Andries Scouting Report

Blaise has above-average football smarts and general intelligence. Plays with a nasty streak. Solid character and work ethic. Best on the outside because of his height and athleticism, but is capable of blocking on the move. He has a strong upper body, arms and hands. Coordinated feet with the flexibility for offensive tackle. Hard worker.

Blaise has the quickness and growth potential, long arms and powerful base to be one of the most popular players in predraft film sessions. If he impresses in private workouts, he could climb draft boards. Has the feet to adjust when he anticipates what's coming. Effective trapping and bends at the knees with adequate core strength to absorb the bull rush. Can clear a path at the second level if he hits the target.

Areas for Improvement

Andries loses leverage battles and plays with high pad level. He can be late off the snap. His height can be a detriment in short-yardage, defender can get under his pads to hold the line. He is not an elite quick-twitch blocker and his height causes him to be out-quicked. He leaks inside pressure when his technique gets sloppy.

Andries is a short-area blocker with limited range and doesn't consistently get to the second level. He will play undisciplined at times, especially in space. He lacks a finishing attitude. He stops his feet after initial contact, relying on length but allowing defender to get the corner or spin inside.

Blaise Andries Career at School

Announced on Dec. 19, 2021, that he was forgoing his final season of eligibility and declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft after the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Started all 46 career games he competed in and helped lead Minnesota to a 30-16 record in those games. Started at every position on the offensive line in his career except center, including five starts at left tackle, 11 at left guard, 21 at right guard and nine at right tackle.

Blaise Andries NFL Draft Player Profile

Blaise Andries boasts elite positional versatility as Minnesota asked him to play left tackle, right tackle and right guard all within the same drive versus Ohio State in 2021 (also played left guard earlier in career) and he looked functional at all spots. He’s a mauler in the run game who blocks with a physical demeanor and helps set the competitive tone in the trenches.

When at guard, Andries is great as the climber on combo blocks, creating displacement on the initial defender, then locating his next target quickly and getting enough contact to keep them out of the play. In addition, Andries is a powerful puller who takes a tight angle behind the line and can turn defensive ends inside, away from the direction of the run. When at tackle, Andries maximizes his great size and makes kick out blocks well, turning his hips and consequently the defender, towards the sideline.
