The Denver Broncos have swung a trade for tight end AJ Derby.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos sent a 2017 draft pick to the Patriots to acquire Derby. The team has confirmed it's a fifth-round pick.
"A.J. is a young tight end who can help us immediately. He has tremendous upside and will fit in well on our team," Broncos general manager John Elway said.
This is the second trade on Tuesday for the Patriots. Earlier in the day, the AFC East team landed Lions linebacker Kyle Van Noy and a seventh-round pick in exchange for a sixth-round draft choice.
Derby was a 2015 sixth-round selection by the Pats out of the University of Arkansas. He missed his entire rookie campaign as he battled injuries. Derby has appeared in four games this season for New England.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end, a converted quarterback, has yet to record a reception in his NFL career.
