Bryan Cook Scouting Report

Bryan Cook has decent, not great, speed. He has some explosive ability as an athlete. He has some burset to help him recover well. Bryan comes downhill with some fires to his step. He changes direction pretty well. He shows the ability to work back into the play if he over pursues. Cook works well downhill to attack the ball carrier. He is a decent tackler overall. He takes good pursuit angles.

Cook is very effective in deep coverage. He understands his assignment and sees the play well. He plays solid man coverage for a safety. He attacks the catch point. He has the ability to play against tight ends. He contests the catch point well if he can not make a play on the ball. Bryan is good defender in space, is rarely out of position. He flashes good instincts and consistently cleans up tackles that his team mates miss. He has really solid recognition, he is a film junkie to better understand his opponent and it shows up on film.

Areas for Improvement

Bryan is that jack of all trades but master of none type safety. He doesn't have great speed, relies on his instincts to be in the play. He has some burst but improving pursuit angles would help him get to the ball carrier quicker. He is not particularly strong. As stated he can recover but he also tends to over pursue. He can work on his tackling technique. He needs to work on wrapping up rather than attempting shoe string tackles.

Bryan Cook Career at Cincinnati

Cook prepped for Coach Arvie Crouch at Mount Healthy HS. He earned Honorable Mention Associated Press All Southwest District honors and First Team All Southwest Ohio Conference accolades in 2016. He was a part of SWOC Championship team in 2014 and 2015. At Howard University he played in 21 games between 2017-18. He totaled 93 tackles, including 77 solo stops. He also had 17 passes defended, five tackles for loss and five interception with one returned for 41 yard touchdown. He also had two forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Transferred to UC in 2019, sat out 13 games due to NCAA transfer regulations. He made his UC debut in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl, recording a pair of tackles on special team. He was named to the 2019 AAC All Academic Team. Following season, he made two starts and played in all 10 games during his first full season at UC. He totaled 26 tackles, including 19 solo stops. He also had two pass break ups and a tackle for loss.

This year started all 13 games and tallied 87 tackles, 53 solo stops. He also recorded one sack and one interception helping the Bearcats to an undefeated season.

Bryan Cook NFL Draft Player Profile

Bryan Cook is the third Bearcat to make the Risers list this season and the second from UC’s defensive backfield. In what was a tougher-than-expected contest, Cincinnati remained undefeated after beating Tulsa 28-20 — and Cook did his part.

He finished the game with 14 tackles and 2 PBUs, giving him 61 tackles this season. Cook has nice size (6’1″, 205 pounds) but average speed (4.6 40-yard dash). The senior is equipped with instincts and a terrific head for the game. While most scouts grade Cook as a priority free agent, I stamped him as a sixth-round prospect. That’s where he’s likely to end up in April if he posts decent testing times.
