Bubba Bolden NFL Draft Profile
|
Bubba Bolden Scouting ReportBubba closes to the ball quite well and possesses the hands to snatch throws away from his frame. He has good speed in pursuit with the chase skills to track down the ballcarrier. He is quicker than he is fast but has a burst to close in zone coverage and plays physical at the line in man coverage. Bubba has good trajectory assessment on the thrown ball. He breaks quickly and has decent ball skills. While built more like a cornerback than a safety, he has the visiion and ball skills teams want at the free safety in the pass heavy NFL. He has excellent range and hitting ability.

Areas for ImprovementBolden needs to get stronger. He is too easily lost in trash. He is not a sudden athlete. He shows body stiffness when attempting to quickly redirect. He lacks elite speed to recover if beaten on double moves. He ducks his head and swipes too often on open field tackles. Bolden has tense ankles and hips with choppy footwork when attempting to redirect and does not always look natural changing directions. He has NFL frame with strong hands, the ability to close quickly on underneath routes and the size to tackle with a thump. He lowers his shoulders for the big hit rather than wrapping up securely.

Bubba Bolden NFL Draft Player ProfileBolden is a long safety who is deployed in deep zones with half field and single high as well as the occasional off man alignment over the slot. Bolden possesses very good hip fluidity in space which is impressive for a player of his size. His great lateral agility allows him to cut off routes. Bolden recovers quickly after getting beat, speaking to his agility. In two high, he has very good eyes, reading inside out reliably. Playing instinctually, his trigger is very quick allowing him to be a playmaker breaking on routes from depth. Bolden fills without hesitation and attempts to punch the ball out from ball carriers. His size and athleticism allow him to match up with tight ends in man. He communicates pre and post-snap, displaying good leadership.
