Could this be the starting defense, day 1 of 2022 season?

what I said would have DJ Reed, Bryce Hall, Sauce Gardner, Michael Carter II all on the field at the same time. They are the best players we have and deserve to be on the field. DJ Reed matchups against the speed slot receivers. Both Hall & Sauce have the length to take on those lanky tall esq receivers. Does not stop Reed from playing on the outside. Bryce Hall could matchup as a slot guy against the tight ends, even running backs when we have three corners on the field.

with Carter II he is the fourth corner on the field but he has ability to play safety. Reasons why Jordan Whitehead plays in the box can be considered that Kam Chancellor role at linebacker. CJ Mosley & Whitehead in 4-2-5 Nickel defenses. Can throw in Quincy with Sherwood in 43 Base & Under sets. Whitehead moves back to safety in those sets with MC2, Joyner & Pinnock.

I don’t know about Whitehead as a LB. Seems risky. But you never know with this coaching staff. They seem to like smaller, faster players at LB. Whitehead is a great tackler, so there’s that.

I keep asking the same question. If Q makes another pro-bowl but doesn’t give us that type of season , can we afford to pay him 20+ mil per year ? Even if we could, should we ?

I think the reason the Jets are so hot after Larry Ogunjobi is as insurance against Q walking away after this season . Both guys are pretty much the same player but Q might be the better run defender .

I think the point here is that we may all be guilty of being too hung up on positional expectations, how big a LB should be, how many DBs we should have. To me, it seems like this scheme is more dependent on getting the best players on the field and putting them in positions to make plays, even if it does not follow established orthodoxy.

Jet fans are not going to accept this no matter what you say . At least not the old guard, lol

not that much ... if Q turns in an Aaron Donald Season, he isn't doing that by accident; i truly believe he is a committed player to the Jets, so give him something that is not an insult, but Q might be the first to find out an individual will not take u the salary cap.

but if he turns in another good season for a DT, you have to deal him. because that number he is going to sign for an Aaron Donald season is about the same for a upper echelon/ but not elite DT.

sort of..

defensive linemen will apparently be on strict snap counts.....

i get it, these are saleh's decisions to make until they are someone else's.. but that's not me giving them a pass on remaining the 32nd ranked defense again or anywhere close this coming season.. douglas has given the D enough pieces to be a much better unit..

i'm all for thinking outside of the box so long as it works because it is still time to win some ball games regardless.. another shit show season after all the pieces added to both sides of the ball will unexpectable in my book..

i hear you, but they will have serious coin tied up on rotational players in Carl, JFM, and (soon) Q too.
can't rule it out, right?
they picked up Quinnen's 5th year next year is his fourth.

Lawson is entering 2nd year of a 3 year deal, they drafted Jermaine Johnson II

JFM has guarantees in the first two years that is this year and 2023

so technically no. future money is safe right now.

Quinnen could of negotiated new deal but is banking on himself to prove he is worth the big money. Expect Lawson needs to stay relatively healthy this season to see year three of his contract. JFM is here for at least two seasons, then his contract is movable with little to no dead loss. Jermaine Johnson II is basically locked on a team friendly 5 year deal. We are good, reason why they tried to trade up into the first for Breece because of the cap $$$ are more manageable with a 5 year contract.

they say that now and will try to implement it but there will be times that certain players starter, role players that will see north of 35 but no more than 60% guarantee it.

I get the perception of what a linebacker should look like, size and weight.

this coaching staff literally has a different perception and hopefully it grows on you and all Jets fans.

used to something that has been the norm. is hard to change the concept that you are used too but in reality this concept has been around for almost a decade from Jaguars, to Seattle to San Fran now here.

It’s tough to gage at this point because the plan was to use guys like Nasirldeen and Sherwood at LB. Both got hurt and struggled somewhat, but didn’t have a large enough sample size to really see how they transitioned from being more conventional safeties in college. I think the fact that we didn’t really address the LB position this off season means they’re still high on them.

LOLz i did say apparently..

still, arguably the best unit on the team cannot be mismanaged because the coaches are married to a philosophy & not the talent.. taking the "we got this all figured out position" is only a good idea if you actually do..

i didn't mean they weren't affordable. i meant that they earn "decent" coin but are on a tight pitch count like and get rotated regardless of salary.
