The Jets have one of Lewis’s college coaches on their staff in assistant defensive backs coach Chip Vaughn.
Vaughn served as Air Force’s secondary coach from 2018-2019. So Vaughn worked directly with Lewis for at least part of his time at Air Force. Clearly Vaughn got the most out of Lewis, as he put up strong enough numbers to make it to the NFL.
Maybe Vaughn can now help Lewis stick at the next level.

Lewis comes from a football family. His cousin, Shawn Springs, was in the NFL, too.
Springs, a cornerback, was in the NFL from 1997-2009 after going third overall in the 1997 NFL Draft. He spent seven seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, five years with Washington and one year with the Patriots.
Springs was a Pro Bowler in 1998 and was second-team All-Pro in 2004. He recorded 714 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 84 pass deflections, 33 interceptions and two forced fumbles for his career.
